The temps here are not forecast to be as brutal as last time, the problem being we are expecting more ice than snow. :(
To have ice from freezing rain your temps must be slightly above or slightly below the freezing point. Are those temps in your normal range for this time of year?

During most of the expected precip, temps will be hovering slightly below freezing. After that, temps are expected to fall to around 10F in this area both Sat and Sun.
It is not uncommon for us to have one or two days of the year where temps fall to 15F or so (usually in Feb). Those days are generally clear of precip.
We usually remain just south of the snow line, whereas DFW may have 4-5 snows per year.
The coldest I've seen at this location has been +2F. This has happened only twice in my life; once when I was a child and again 2 or 3 years ago.

Yeah, we only get a handful of below freezing days a year here, and white stuff falling from the sky is a major news event.

There is an atmospheric river dropping down the west coast on the back side of the polar vortex which is sucking in moisture from that river. Now you don't have cold dry air, so you will get freezing rain/ice build up. The further north you go the temps are colder so you can look forward to record snow falls. In the end it could be a mess for half of the US from the mid west to the east coast. Should be fun for all for a week or more.

I was looking for a small heater to use for outdoor events like soccer matches. I found a small kerosene heater in which the cage raises to around 20". I also found these fans that work off the heat generated by a heat source. Since I might use it indoors this coming week, I filled it with white kerosene rather than the type with dye. My big one in the garage is also loaded a ready for a power outage. In the kerosene lanterns and lamps, I use lamp oil rather than kerosene.

so far a footish/30cm of snow and we did 3 clean-ups... and the storm's guesstimated to be gone by 1400 tomorrow/monday... slightly odd for us we kinda enjoyed doing the clean-up and got a fun surprise a family friend drove by on a side by side and we got a ride...
