I have bought many items on here and TSR.
I don't think I have ever paid with anything other than f&f and never had a problem. I think it may be because I have only dealt with established members, more by accident than choice.
I have sold many times and I think I have only had to pick up the fees once.
I guess we all need to be a bit more vigilant and not too complacent.
Having said that, I will still be paying f&f to certain members if I should deal with them.
Can the mods not check the IP logs of the accounts?
I suspect the dodgy seller has a legitimate account on the forum and created a dummy account just to rip someone off.
If they can link the IP address to the accounts, they may be able to identify the culprit.
Many ears ago I was on another IT geek type forum and and a member posted that he had been ripped off - he had paid for an Xbox and the seller just didn't send it. He mailed the seller and she had the balls to say that, yes she had ripped him off and he should accept it and move on.
Somehow, the other members of the forum managed to identify her and then it began...
She started getting calls in the middle of the night, her family were contacted, her workplace was contacted, her landlord was contacted, all were notified about what she had done.
Holiday pictures of her were copied from Facebook and posted. She was bombarded with calls, texts,emails from forum members all around the world.
In the end, she refunded the money, but got kicked out of her flat and lost her job.

A pif to someone you have an online conversation with is better than it being overlooked by the bin man.

My understanding is more than 1 scam transaction and total in the felony range of $1,000+. There may have been 3 fraudulent sales (vaguely recall seeing that number). Add the $600+ loss by Paladin (@ChiefBroom) and the crooks have found multiple illegal money making ways.
SELLER BEWARE is the new phrase in the wet shaving community.

There are scammers who take money and there are scammers who trawl the forums looking for PIF's, all scammers in my eyes I'm afraid.
New members don't get automatic PM rights; they have to wait for a month and have to contribute to the forum to acquire PM privileges

I meant give it to someone you chat with rather than an open PIF but I think most people who enter PIFs are genuine

I am relatively new to ATG, but been a member at german forums for several years. I've never beean betrayed yet while buying quite a lot razors, hones, soapes and so on. I always payed via paypal f+f.
Now I am waiting for a Gibbs razor from france which I bought on a french site for classifieds. Waiting for the razor for more than 3 weeks now - I guess I also have been scammed

I traded soaps with a member from France and although he sent me a photo of it, before it was posted. It still ended up going to Scotland, the Royal mail sent it to Antrim, Northern Ireland and from there back to Paris!
It second time it was posted, The French post mailed to my local post office which I never provided the address for! Why I don't know but it still took 5 weeks to arrive.

Thank's for your reply, ManicDee. I still got hope, cause the classified (hope that's the correct vocabulary) is still online. I mailed him today and now I am waiting for his answer. Maybe he just forgot to post the razor...fingers crossed

On all the Bideford Bowl transactions I always factored in PayPal. Most people paid F&F trusting me, and making me enough for a pint or two. All entirely up to the individual, PayPal or not I would have been personally devastated to of let anyone down.
Trouble is there are indeed too many people willing to lie and scheme.
