lke the title suggests , I was interested in your opinions and ways in how you take care of your de razors after each and every shave , or the routine you have each end of the week or month : do you remove the blade and put it back in the wrapper , do take your razor apart and clean / dissinfect it completely , and what about the soaps you have used : do you let them dry in the puck if you lather straight from it's container or let it airdry in the lathering bowl? how do you take care of your brushes after the shaves?

Remove the blade from the razor after each shave. Clean and dry razor and blade.
Rinse and clean both soap and brush and let dry about 2 days before get them back in the den, brushes to dry upside down. This works great and keeps gear in good shape.

I don’t rinse my soap but instead swipe the proto-lather (for use as preshave) and put aside. After my final pass, I rinse and then apply lather all of my face. I leave that to sit while I rinse and towel-dry the (synthetic) brush, clean the sink, disassemble and dry the razor and blade. I then rinse my face and apply aftershave and deodorant. When I’m dressed, breakfasted, and eventually get around to ‘styling’ my hair, I apply moisturiser/SPF, reassemble the razor, put the razor, brush and (uncapped) soap tub away in the medicine cupboard, and spray fragrance. I’ll put the lid back on the soap the following morning before the grooming process restarts...

I go full ocd on my kit after a shave, everything cleaned dried and put away apart from the brush which is left hanging untill dry. Blades go back into its wrapper and wrapper is marked with a marker pen on each use. Soap is dried with tissue and then air dried for 12hrs.
It's just part of my shaving routine and it only takes an extra five to ten minutes to do this after my shave.
I'm not saying it's the right way just my way! :) P.

wel Blademonkey ( Paul ) after every shave I rinse my brushes througly under the running tap and shake and squize them out thurroughly and leave them to dry. the razor I do rinse and take completly apart once a week and deep clean them and dry them of softly , I tend to put in a fresh new blade in that time :) for the soaps part after three passes I use to scoop out the remainding lather out of the container and rinse the face with it and clean the rest out under cold water and air dry the soap , before putting it back in the medicine cabbinet :P

I rinse my DE/SE and put it away. Same goes for the brush. Soap puck gets covered and put away.

Straight razors get a different treatment. They get rinsed, dried with a wad of folded toilet paper, blade and between the scales, stropped on linen to make sure the edge is dry and the put way open to air dry. Blades on these things are not usually stainless or even coated, just plain old carbon steel. They need more care than a modern DE blade or even DE/SE razors which are generally plated.

  • Razor, still containing blade, gets rinsed with hot water (blade stays in razor til it's spent - razor gets thorough clean at this point)
  • Brush and soap gets rinsed with cold water (brushes receive extra clean with shampoo every 3/4 months)
  • Everything gets left to dry on top of fridge - it's warm
  • Lid goes back on soap when I get home from work
Simple, but effective
