Learning to shave with the Feather Artist Club

There's this guy that although he uses only one hand, his technique is the best I've seen. I wish I could shave XTG on my neck like he does but I can't do it.
Anyway, enjoy it
Amazing to watch, he seems to be unconstrained by the awkwardness that I usually feel. Having said that, I don't think I'll be switching to doing things his way. I found myself wondering why he doesn't just use his other hand, most of the way through.

He did do an amazing stroke on his lower neck where he simultaneously moved his razor and stretching-hand in opposite directions.

Absolutely, he's totally comfortable with his own style.

I wouldn't try to copy either, my beard growth is mapped a little different so it wouldn't make sense those strokes in that sequence but maybe one can find little things that would apply to your own style.

That stroke it really is amazing.... my neck seems to be too short to get the blade in that position and shave.

What impresses me the most is how he follows the map of his facial hair growth, it seems like there aren't waisted strokes.

I think most people if they use their non dominant hand often enough will become very proficient with it. I write with my right hand but played golf and cricket with my left. Football I was 50/50 but snooker and darts I use my right. Growing up I couldn't find or afford left handed golf clubs so would have to use borrowed right handed clubs, I practiced lots and by the end I was almost as good as with my left although it never really felt as natural.

My dad crickets and snookers left handed but writes with his right.
I'm, in a sense, ambidextrous having played flute and later guitar, and doing chemistry which requires a degree of proficiency with both hands.
Using a straight came reasonably easy using both hands - if anything I'm a little better with my left in some regards.

I was not totally impressed with his technique - and at times I thought I was watching slow motion. Even allowing for differences in beard growth patterns, some of his contortions just looked unnecessary. I’m a single handed shaver and can achieve a very close end result in about half the time. And why does he re-lather part way through? Maybe I should video my next straight shave if I could work out where to fix my camera phone. Any ideas?

If you have a handsfree mobile phone car cradle it should do the job for you.

Day 73 - Feather Artist Club SS with Schick Proline (2)

Definitely harder for me to shave with the Proline than the Super. Don't know why. Several little nicks and weepers. Overall the shave is less comfortable too. Perhaps I'd do better with the DX.

Three passes WTG/XTG/ATG. Not as comfortable as usual, and not as close either. I ended up reaching for an SE for a fourth pass afterwards.

Shame!

Day 26 - Feather Artist Club SS with KAI Protouch MG

This was yesterdays shave, but didn't had the time to post. I've come to a point where shaving with the AC feels natural. On the cheeks and moustache area I get BBS or near BBS every time. The chin require some buffing and extra work, but the result is good most times. On the neck I get a decent result, but I still don't get BBS on some spots.

Feather Artist SS with a Feather Professional Super (1)

I'm going to have to shave with a new Feather Pro again cause I can't tell the difference between new Feather pro and pro super. :)

Anyway, I decided for the Feather Pro Super over the Schick blade, a very good shave, a couple of tiny weepers under my nose.... the blade feels so sharp, substantially sharper than shave number 8 with the Feather Pro.

I also got a little bit of irritation on my neck which is very unusual for me, I can't remember the last time I got irritation.

I think the next shave will be with a SE razor and the same blade(1) febore I go back to the SS with the same blade (2).... why? Because of my previous experience with the Feather Pro from shave No 3 onwards.

Day 74 - Feather Artist Club DX with Schick Proline (3)

Decided to try the DX with the Proline, to see if my issue has something to do with exposure. Nope. Horrible shave.

I think I'm going to park the Proline idea, and just save them for use in my SE razors, where they are fine.

So, 2 passes today, WTG and XTG. I was taking extreme care, stretching before every stroke, and not repeating strokes at all. By the end of the XTG pass, I had so many little weepers that I called it a day and went back to an SE (using the same Proline blade).

Back to Feather Supers for me I think.

Day 75 - Feather Artist Club SS with Kai Protouch MG (7)

I've spent a couple of days using the Proline in my SEs. I don't think I like the blade much. Today I decided to come back to the Artist Club, to give my face a rest, and using a well-seasoned Kai Protouch guarded blade.

Three passes today, WTG/XTG/ATG and I completely forgot to do the XTG with the non-dominant hand. The results are fantastic though. Very close and incredibly comfortable. The blade felt a bit scrapey in use, so I wasn't sure if I was going to end up with a comfortable shave, but I did. It's almost like I gave my skin a day off.

Early in this post, someone told me they'd kept using Protouch MG exclusively. I wonder whether I need to jump on that bandwagon. This really was exceptional. I can't use Feather Pros, and I don't seem to like Prolines in any razor, so it's just the Kai guarded and the Feather Supers so far that agree with me.

Edit: Looks like it was @lloydrm back here: #22 - thanks mate!

Day 76 - Feather Artist Club SS with Kai Protouch MG (8)

Pretty much a replay of yesterday, except I remembered to use my non-dominant hand for one side of XTG. I still feel the Protouch feels scrapey in use (it was on its 8th shave though), but I still finished the shave feeling incredibly comfortable and very close.

Maybe I should buy shares in Kai.
