Keeping count feels like a Rube Goldberg machine. As I wrap up the shave, I ask myself - could it go another? If not, I bin it.

Every morning my alarm goes off at 5A.M. I get up and put water on for tea which I steep for 5 minutes. I'm shaking out 5 medications for blood pressure and my head injury. I down the pills with tea and prep my soap and brush while taking a cold sea shower under 5 minutes to cut my water bill and do my part so yuppies can have hottubs and green grass while complaining about the high price of avocados. I am now awake, not running on autopilot and make a Mickey Mouse Sorcerer's Apprentice mess of water and soap and then a deliberate shave. There is no room for deliberation in this one moment of personal freedom. Blade tugs it goes into the box for my next project. Somebody in the neighborhood is playing with a drone. I'm building a quiver of multiblade tipped darts on a lanyard for my throwing stick. I'm bringing that nuisance DOWN next week.

Elegant solution.I use plastic pigeon leg bands clipped over a handy wire rail like below, abacus style. The number of rings on the left indicates the number of shaves per DE blade (top) and Gem blade (bottom).

Not really. He stated blades were inexpensive and he trashes 'em after 3-4 shaves. I agree totally. Steel is about the only component of this thing of ours that is inexpensive.

Then there’s of course the “Excalibur Club” (web search: “excalibur club blade longevity”). I never did read through the whole thread there, but let’s just say 47 shaves on a Feather blade in an English Gillette Tech, 46 shaves on a Personna 74 Injector blade… You get the idea.
