Don't just write it off on the say so of one, unless you know that you both like the same razors. It is suberbly efficient IMO - I've just had 2 fantastic, two pass shave with the .90 OC. It's my current favourite DE. You need to try it before writing it off...

Definitely leave it on the list, in fact get one, for the price it is superb. I have sold mine but only because I have so many great razors on my rack and I already struggle to choose one every other morning as it is.

Thinking of purchasing a START set.

Would any of you guys, who used both, be willing to elaborate on the whole satin Vs polished finish?
I would much rather have the polished version, but I keep reading that satin is suppose to be smoother.
Since the geometry should be the same, I am curious as to whether the satin has less drag? Thus what do you mean by smoother?

yes-and as a bonus -the new start version is actually made of the much better and more expensive 316 surgical stainless steel -(same as Rolex use for their watches) now bought 3 sets from same seller-well packaged up-nice to deal with- and also the new taiga -and not had to pay customs as he lists contents as a $10 razor for uk customs and they cannot read the Russian language!

Rolex doesnt use normal 316l steel but something even stronger. 316 ss is the most common used stainless steel around

Not so my friend. 304 is top dog in commercial use worldwide....

I bought the original polished start set-then I also added a matte version-the polished for me is smoother in use- than the matte version-the matte one seems to add more drag in use than the shiny polished version-this completely-goes against what- I also had read- but makes sense -as their is far less friction- on polished steel- versus matted finish-but then again we are all different

Yes, it's true what you say. Satin is softer but unfortunately it will not be made.

re stainless 304 v 316 here is the summing up from a steel expert-let you decide ??
To sum it up, 316 steel is worth the expense if you need superior corrosion resistance and your application contains water. If not, 304 steel will serve your needs just fine.

I see on their website a new narrow top cap is now available, this presumably allows for more blade exposure/feel.

not by too much- their website gives the exact dimensions- if you check both normal and narrow heads if that helps-a few fractions of mm ??

Yes thanks, I now see the narrow plate is 0.4mm narrower. That just means less support to the blade, not going to make much difference I guess
