Homelike Start DE Razor

Finally received my Homelike razor after it took a longer travel break in customs.

After my first shave, my initial impression is mixed. The 1.18 gap isn't aggressive, but there is just something about the efficiency of the shave that doesn't correlate with what everyone else is saying. I am guessing this has something to do with the way the blade points a bit straighter out of the razor than with my favourites (timeless, blackbird, carbon CX, nodachi). These other razors seems to bend the blade a bit more downward toward the safety bar.

I had a similar experience with the Razorock Gamechanger and expect that this would require me to shave at a shallower angle (lifting the handle up more). Will revisit the Homelike razor tomorrow with the new angle and see how that goes.

Any opinions on shaving angle or has this been a very intuitive thing for all of you?

I think at first I was blinded by the Homelike razor because of the smoothness it has. After a while I noticed that the blade exposure was too little to make it an efficient razor.. for me that is.

bought 2 razors both went via and passed customs with no charges-the taiga he listed as a start razor with a value of only us$10 so under the threshold -so customs did not open either of my packages- a decent guy to deal with

I know you have some other high end de’s such as Timeless Ti and RS10. How do you find it (the Taiga) compares to them?

the taiga and also the start are both on a par with the timeless ti in 0.95oc- if I am to be completely honest-and both are just so smooth and yet superbly effective-after first pass with the taiga on setting 4 there was simply nothing left to take off atg -as I tried to no avail- next shave I dialled it back to around 3.75 -which equates to the 0.95 timeless- and again same thing -if in a hurry a one pass shave would do you all day-and yet no razor burn -both like a sharp blade- I suspect -although others might disagree with me?as blades are so subjective!!

Thanks Jim.
And thinking about blades, I prefer a milder one in the timeless .95. Currently Permasharps. But this is probably because I usually use milder razors and only really get away with a .95 Timeless Ti because of its smoothness/angle.

yes beautifully made and polished razors-a lot of thought and work into machining the reverse threads etc- and best of all- an adjustable that actually shaves extremely well- each and every time-loving mine -with the open comb plate- and ti handle -which I find is much grippier than the standard 316l stainless version-a keeper for sure this one
