Hello Benz3ne.

Last things first. No apologies needed and no condescension perceived. You have simply provided me with some extremely useful information which I would either have had to pay for or I would have found out the hard way. So thank you very much for all of it.

I arrived on this forum looking for advice and opinions, not to get my ego massaged so I remain very grateful for all input.

I propose to take things, one step at a time. I will see if members even like the darn product and then I’ll decide if it’s right to take the next step or perhaps even let someone else take it.

You have asked how TSS is it not an emulsion out of interest and what stops it separating. Not being a chemist (Petrochemist ?) I had not analysed the structure. On reflection I had naïvely supposed that the mere fact that it does not separate renders it other than an emulsion. What stops it from separating? Dunno guv – viscosity perhaps ? No, it still doesn’t separate when mixed with water. A further thought is that we are talking of a mixture, not a chemical compound.

As a chemist I’d be happy to try and shed some light on it if you’d like? Similarly, if you needed a hand with anything else regarding getting it ‘shelf ready’ I’d be happy to offer what knowledge I have, and can recommend test houses for stability/CPSR etc.

Forgot to mention, you need to generate a PIF too, product information file. This is essentially a file of SDS, method of manufacture, the safety assessment aforementioned, info on animal testing etc. Easier than it sounds.
The PIF is only required to be presented if it’s requested by governing bodies and suchlike, which is typically unlikely.

I have just showed my last reply to your advice to La Patronne (given the reference to, and use of, her kitchen toys). She cautioned that it might sound as if I was not taking your advice seriously. So in case of doubt please be assured I AM grateful for this sort of input. It will certainly help to keep me out of trouble.

That’s absolutely fine as long as you evidence that you have x of ingredients and measure them to 1 decimal place on your *insert brand name here* scale and mix for 30 seconds etc. It’s basically detailing the repeatability of your manufacturing.

To be clear, all the requirements are listed in reg no (Ec) 1223/2009 so that makes some worthwhile reading.
