High-end razors

My only "high end" razor is the S1. I'm thinking of getting an M1, but I have the 6C, X3, Maggard Slant, R89, 102, Krona, and my all time favourite, 39C. These are not "high end", but since all of them give me a BBS every time I use them I consider them all "high end". Bragging rights due to their efficiency, not their price.

Feather AC is the only razor that touches my face. This is after trying A LOT of razor over the past several years - Gillette Super Speed, Toggle, 37C, EJ89, Ikons, Fasans, Neo Lux, Fatboys, Slims, Aristocrat, RR, Gems, straight razors and 1/2DE shavettes... I honestly haven't intended to settle on the most expensive, it just delivers what I need. Great razor.

I use a Feather AS-D2 on my head daily... again it's not a intent to use a high end razor, it's just what works for my head shaving. Although I'll admit I've never used a Tech so that might trump the AS-D2.

If cost is such a decisive factor in determining if it's a high-end razor, then a number of vintage razors are very high-end indeed. Besides that, equalling higher cost to better razor makes classic shaving a snobbish thing, doesn't it? Begs the question: had your Wolfman only cost a tenner, would you have got rid of it for not being high-end enough?

I got rid of my first Wolfman as it was far too mild. I want something well made with attention to detail and design. With heft and solidly built. That generally means not mass produced and by small companies
Therefore it's not going to be low cost

The only high end razor I currently own is the One blade. I have owned several others including Feather Ikon and Cobra razors. I decided to have a cull some time ago and virtually got rid of everything "high end" DE wise. Bought a Supply Co. SE and really liked it, that led to the One Blade.
I'm trying to be a bit more minimalist with razors, brushes and software, whether I succeed is another matter............

Yup, there is a certain amount of snobbishness in this hobby as in any other I have been associated with. There will always be some that believe the more you pay for something the better it is at what it is intended to do. That is just the way it is even though it may not be always true.

Same with any hobby, sport etc... More money = must be better! Not necessarily the case as some of us have found out. I don't like the Timeless, I was underwhelmed with the Cobra Classic.
The Rockwell 6c blows many high end razors out of the water, but it is not CNC stainless steel so may not get the attention it possibly deserves, for example....

Id be thoroughly delighted if the Feather AS-D2 was a tenner, I'd buy 7 and have a weekly set. Maybe even replate some to add some aesthetic variety.

Basing performance on cost is something apparent across a multitude of markets. Marketing itself can alter views and price point. Snobbish perhaps, but only if one can't see past the price tag IMO. In all hobbies you will find cash cows that base price above functionality. Functionality isn't in my mind, totally dependent on price. However I would expect a relative improvement in performance for a product that cost more. Equally I wouldn't have such high expectations for those that cost less. Finally I agree on your point regarding vintage razors, however, I disagree on the term classic shaving. I believe currently our hobby is a classic style, but represented by modern razors, with newer materials and tighter tolerances presents itself providing an impression of a modern approach.

Had my Wolfman cost a tenner I can't imagine it having the same quality displayed now.

I haven't tried any of the aforementioned titans of modern day wetshaving BUT I've tried a dozen or so razors and I'm very glad with my Rockwell 6s. Maybe not a looker but what a razor! I'm curious to know how the Rockwell relates to these pricey high end razors?

I do not know if these can be considered High End but I currently own ATT M1, ATT S1/2. Barbaros TR1. Mongoose B3 satin. Rockwell 6C and on the way a Guerrilla. I also have a Hone and an Ikon 102 slant which are lower grade, the Ikon however shaves me wonderfully. I adore SS razors and seldom want to use anything else but if something interesting comes up on BST I cannot say no to it.

@Nishy I just wondered because you explicitly state cost as a factor, whereas I think cost is a result of trying to achieve these low tolerances or great finishing. At the same time, "budget"Wolfman is being produced with similar tolerances but less shiny finishing, and a lowish-cost titanium razor is on its way. If these razors score a minimum of 8/10 in all your categories except cost, then that would actually be better than high-end, wouldn't it?

Hiya yes definitely. Cost is a side factor, performance, aesthetics and quality overall is more important to me. I just feel cost to be a co-factor when considering a top end razor. I certainly wouldn't determine the hierarchy of a razor to be dependent on cost. What I have found unfortunately is that my best razors do cost a lot :)
