Head Shavers..what's your set up?

For head shaving, I just prefer the speed of using a cartridge, whereas, on the face I'm a DE / SE man!

@Shaverrific666 - the other great thing about using cartridges for the head is that, even when they would otherwise be spent - as far as using on the face is concerned - with a rub on a razor pit (or similar), they become sufficiently re-energised to comfortably use on the head. I can easily get 2-3 months out of a cartridge on the head using this method.

After reading these words of advice I took out my strop and reverse stropped the Gillette Mach 3 I shave my head with. Usually, I get 12 shaves with a cartridge. Now I am up to 20. The shaves are still good. In fact, the blades show some separation between them now and I get a closer shave than when the blades were new.

Like Martin, DE/SE for the face, quality cart for the head shaves. The Fusion or Schick Hydro 3 or 5 works wonders on the head. Much better results than the DE/SE. Still the same great prep (Mike's, Mystic, Phoenix & Beau) and Tuxedo synths or Lee Sabini two-bands.

I can't believe I enjoy it as much as I do. It allows us more time with these great artisan products!

Barbers just nod with respect and understanding now. It feels like it's becoming the norm for those of us blessed with dwindling locks up top.

Used the Brass General with a Schick Proline tonight. Soap/Cream was Razorock Santa Maria Del Fiore and post was Antica Barbieria Colla Almond Milk. Absolutely superb, a fly just landed on my head and slid off.

I shave my head daily. Any razor that can get my head to BBS with reasonable effort in two passes plus cleanups is a friend of mine, DE, SE, injectors. I rotate amongst a couple of dozen. Most are fairly aggressive as I find they require the least effort.

Today's shave was with an early 30s Rotbart DE, BIC Chrome Platinum blade. Beautiful shave.

So what's your setup for head shaves folks?

I used my new Rockwell 6S for a head shave tonight (using plates 5 & 6) and I've finally found a non-slant DE that works for me.

Others have come close but all have had problems:

Le Coq - far too harsh
Muhle R41 (2011 version) - far too harsh
Tradere OC - Ouch!!!
ATT H1 & R1 - too harsh
Ikon SB, OC & S3S - too harsh
ATT M1 & M2 - too mild
Ikon OSS & Feather AS D1 - too mild
Tradere SB - too mild
Gillette Techs, Rockets, Superspeeds and Aristocrats - too mild
Stahly Live head - too mild
Myatt Daymark - too mild
EJ DE89 & Merkur 23c - too mild
Gillette NEW's, Rotbart OC, Probak OC, Goodwill's and OLD Types - didn't work very well
Blackland Blackbird SB - didn't work very well

All the slants I've used (Merkur 37c & 39c, ATT S1, Ikon B1 and Razorock Stealth Stainless) have all worked well (albeit at different levels of aggressiveness).

Some SE's (GEM Bullet Tip & Clog-Pruf) work well, whereas Featherweight's, G-Bar's and Push-Button's are too mild for me. I found ER 1912's, 1924's, Streamline's and the 1919 I owned, to be too harsh. I've not found any of the Feather AC SE's I own (ATT SE1, Mongoose and Brass General) to be suitable for head shaving as the head is too wide. I have, though, found that a Gillette Guard works pretty well.

I've not owned many injector razors and of those few I have owned none (including my Supply Provision razor) have been suitable. I have a PAL Injectomatic on the way in the hope that it may prove to be suitable.

This has left me with very few razors that actually work for head shaving and my current rotation now consists of the following:

Rockwell 6S
Ikon B1 Slant
ATT S1 Slant
GEM Bullet-Tip and Clog-Pruf
Gillette Guard
Gillette & Wilkinson Sword Cartridge Razors (with a Razorpit)

I'm thinking of trying out a Feather MR3 Neo Cartridge Razor next in order to see how well that works.

I was traveling last week and only brought along a shave stick. I discovered this doesn't work as well on my head in contrast to my face. Not enough bristle to attract the soap! A T&H sample pack saved the day.

Totally agree with this assessment. Wolfman, Timeless, 6c, Variant are all great face shavers. Many tests later quality carts are better on the the dome.
