Feather and Kai shaves

Twelvefret

Forum GOD!
Beautiful straight razor @Twelvefret!
Thank you. That big Zenith you sent looks good in the photo. :okay:

I recall sweating the bidding process. It checks all the boxes, shoulderless spine, "barber's notch" which some speculate helps open the razor without touching. The scales are common for the era on other brands, but they caught my attention.

Here is some history on D.E. Donahue Hardware which dates the razor at least 100 years old. Donahue Hardware | Historic Tours & Markers | Erie County Historical Society :bookworm:

John Holler/Tower Brand were headquartered in New York and imported both English and German goods. :hotdrink:

Just to follow-up with this morning's results, I used the Feather for a first pass and the Holler for the cleanup. Beard mapping is my friend.

The DX had quite benignly fallen out of active rotation for a few weeks, with nary an appearance for probably close to a month. Well, that was a mistake! It’s becoming obvious to me why this model is considered by many to be at the top of the RBSR food chain. It somehow feels “more” than the other two. Is it the different blade design? Could be, I don’t know enough yet. Regardless, it was an absolutely stellar three pass shave!

A solid 9+ with no nicks, no bloods, no errors.

The seller of the DX I posted just offered it to me for $75. Someone here please take advantage!
This is brutal enabling ... 🙂
This is the same vendor I purchased my SR folder. It was an easy transaction.

I didn’t make an offer on this piece for two reasons. 1, I already have a DX folder, and 2, there’s a Kai Captain kami winging its way to me as we speak. If #2 wasn’t actually in process, this DX would be in my cart, bought and paid for. Sure hope someone here picks it up!

Come on boys, you know you want it. You will want one of these babies sooner or later. When you finally decide on a DX this will be gone. Do it.

Seven of Nine will appreciate your excellent taste and manly decisiveness, and hey, who knows?

I am enjoying the Kai much more since ditching the guarded blade for the Proline. It’s generally a solid shave every time now. Tbh today would’ve been another 9/10 were it not for nicking my right cheek on the very last stroke of the shave. I swear, it’s the cream. There’s minimal slickness during the shave regardless of water content, and zero residual slickness. Z rō.

That was residual drippage after cold water rinse, alum and aftershave. Finally a few swipes with an alcohol swab and the bleeding stopped. The weird thing is, it didn’t feel like much of anything when it happened and it doesn’t look like much of anything now. Certainly, I’ve cut myself worse than this. idk, maybe the daily baby aspirin.. but re: the cream,, I believe that going forward I will use it only with safety razors. I seem to like more slickness with the RBSRs.
Dig the drop.
