Never ever, if at all possible, import anything into Canada if the seller will not sent it by mail. Any courier service such as DHL, UPS and the like will nail you for a goodly amount in a brokerage fee.

I haven't used DHL for over a year, but back then it was £12 if VAT was applicable.

I agree, but in this case I had no option. I needed a very specific part urgently which was not available in Canada or anywhere else, but the USA where the part is made. If the part had been available in Buffalo, or another place along the border near me I would have driven there to buy it. After calling the manufacturer in Montana I was referred to their main distributor located in Denver. They had the part and would send it to me, but would not use the USPS/Canada Post; it had to be UPS or no part; c’est la guerre!

If so, using the USPS option, Royal Mail will deliver, but the grey card will arrive in the post showing amount owed and how to pay. This is either online and subsequent delivery, or you take the card to the Delivery office, pay and be handed the package. If using DHL, which I believe is Shane's courier choice, they will text and/or email you with a payment link as the parcel is about to leave California in order for you to pay ahead of arrival in the UK. This speeds up customs clearance which is generally only a matter of minutes.

Tracking a parcel with parcelforce and it says there are customs charges but no references to be able to pay, guessing I’ll get it emailed to me later?

Contacted parcelforce on social media, they gave me reference to pay so speeds up process at least. That £12 handling charge is a killer though right.

Chris, how much is shipping? It's the retail price that has to be under £135 equivalent. Shipping is only taken in to account if it's above that value and then the shipping is added for VAT calculation purposes.
