Jon, I've never used it, but Shipito has a European shipping address in Austria, I believe. That might be worth investigating for shipping fees.

Jon, it says incl VAT initially, but if you change country to UK from Germany default, VAT is removed.

Jon, I think it still comes down to what's written on the customs declaration. Border Force might still think full VAT has been paid and let it through. More chance with Deutsch Post than courier.

According to the rules that apply in the EU and UK, the vendor is supposed to register for (in this case) UK VAT even though they are in Europe. This is why certain suppliers e.g. Gifts and Care no longer supply to the UK. If PILS is not charging VAT then you may find that the carrier will apply it before delivery. I’ve had this happen with DHL.

Chris, if over the equivalent of £135(approx $167 today), then VAT and handling fee are charged. If so, using the USPS option, Royal Mail will deliver, but the grey card will arrive in the post showing amount owed and how to pay. This is either online and subsequent delivery, or you take the card to the Delivery office, pay and be handed the package. If using DHL, which I believe is Shane's courier choice, they will text and/or email you with a payment link as the parcel is about to leave California in order for you to pay ahead of arrival in the UK. This speeds up customs clearance which is generally only a matter of minutes.

What is the brokerage fee DHL charges? Recently I purchased a part for U$100 in the USA for delivery to me in Canda. The vendor would only ship via UPS and as they were the only vendor with the part in stock I had to go along with UPS. UPS charged US $65 shipping and when the package arrived I had to pay UPS a brokerage fee of CAN$85 (about US$65) for clearing Canadian customs. There was no duty exigible on the part, but the Ontario government levied tax of US$13 (equivalent). Final tally: Cost of part = US$100; UPS charges = US$130; Government = US$13.
