Customs and tariffs

Very interesting, I wonder why they've done that. Its still a valid international document
Could it be because it is the standard for electronic customs documentation and is also a full blown address and customs label in one?

Top of the Chain in Canada seem to have been taken in by the UK Governments' unenforceable hyperbole and dropped the UK as a shipping destination with no warning or announcement.

I emailed them initially to query why this was necessary when it was business as usual with their rivals, no reply, then tried reaching-out via Twitter. Once again, no response. Fine is they want to cut themselves adrift from a significant export market, but the lack of response is inexcusable and just plain idle

Why blame it on the UK Government? Surely you should wait until your supplier responds.

All other destinations e.g. Ireland & Australia are still available for shipping as usual, the UK was available pre-January. Precisely the same has happened with other vendors e.g. Italian Barber. Alas too much of a coincidence

I agree to an extent Sean - I just don’t get why some suppliers have failed to organised themselves when others seem to deliver without a hitch. I emailed both Italian Barber and Gifts & Care - both really good suppliers in my experience. Unfortunately G&C‘s response does not seem to have been updated for weeks and they cannot advise when supplies will resume. I’m still waiting for a reply from IB.

I wanted to make a purchase from Rasio Goodfellas in Italy soon after Brexit but Ireland no longer seemed to come up on the delivery list. I am based in the Republic of Ireland, so e-mailed them asking if they no longer delivered to the Republic of Ireland ( I had used them a couple of times before) and got a reply that due to Brexit that they were no longer delivering to Ireland!.

I didn’t have the heart to educate them on the geo political situation of the Island of Ireland and the fact that most of Ireland was still in the EU so just left it!.

I contacted Italian Barber to ask if they intended to re-start supplies to the UK again - they decided against registering for the software necessary to meet the import VAT rules. So unless the rules change they will not be able to supply. This is a great pity as they are a good company to deal with - previously shipping from Canada has been about 1 week, reasonably priced and, most galling of all, always slipped under the radar for customs purposes.

So, if you don't register and still ship to the UK what happens? Seems like others ignore the new rules and the stuff gets through. I still think it is a UK customs scam, if you like, to down load their responsibility to see to it that VAT is collected at time of import to others. Lazy bastards, if you like.

If the international vendors don't register for vat and don't collect vat for uk government when selling to uk citizens nothing happens. The vendor can't be fined or taken to court and the uk buyer is not charged anything for sales of goods that don't attract excise duty and are below £135. Its all been a bluff and many vendors have fallen for it

I agree that it is on the highest order of bureaucratic bull poop that I have recently encountered and contrary to all SOPs that I have heard of for foreign goods entering a country. In the finest tradition of Yes Minister.
