Indeed. I retired my DeLonghi for two reasons, one it couldn’t grind less than a double shot and it wouldn’t go fine enough although it was better than your picture. Back to the Hario hand grinder for me.

Thought I’d resurrect this thread rather than start a new one. Pic for attention.

Our old Asda electric spice/coffee grinder is falling to pieces and needs replacing. I could do with calling upon the hive mind!

To give you a sense of our coffee consumption, we make a moka pot each morning. We grind (typically Lavazza) beans fresh for each pot. I drink mine short and black whereas my wife drowns hers in a vat of frothed-up oatmilk. We have a French press that gets fished out of the cupboard when my parents are over.

Finally, our kitchen’s small so anything we get lives in a cupboard rather than the counter.

Anything worth buying for <£30? Are hand grinders that much of a PITA?

I’ve just got a cheap blade spice type grinder from Lidl which is very quick but, as with any blade machine, doesn’t give the consistency of a burr grinder. I used it yesterday for a 9 cup moka pot brew with no issues.
I have a good quality portable hand grinder by Hunt Brothers that has ceramic burrs but it takes ages

Hand grinders are a labour of love. I wouldn’t bother, but I don’t know about cheap burr grinders and wouldn’t know if a blade grinder is better than preform d in a moka or French press. But I do know hand grinders are a lot of effort.

Slightly over your budget but a good deal. I paid £8 more for mine

I've had this for best part of 18 months. No issues with performance / reliability and compact in size. I'm the reverse of you - French press used daily and Moka pot once in a while for guests, but it seems to cover both bases well. YMMV as noted earlier in this thread, others haven't had such good luck with this one.

I went with a Eureka Mignon Specialita and its been the best investment yet giving consistent grinds making it easier to dial in beans
