I have a Blackland Blackbird SB machined finish 85 mm, a Blackland Blackbird OC black oxide 85 mm, and a machined 101 mm handle.
They are the best razors I have ever used. I would slightly recommend the safety bar version over the open comb. I fell in love with the results of the shave immediately, as its efficiency is unparallelled (in my book). However, learning to get smooth shaves with it took me almost a month. Persistence may just be the key if you ever buy or try one. Once I learned the safety bar version, the open comb was very similar, and I haven’t had any issues with either.
The “drag” that some mention seems to depend on the angle and the pressure used. I use a shallow angle for the first pass, and I can feel something of a slight vacuum effect, almost. (It has never bothered me, and I actually rather enjoy it.) Later on in the shave, I’ll use a steeper angle, and this drag isn’t really evident. When it comes to pressure, the less, the better. This razor requires no pressure to completely eliminate any whiskers in its path.
