I have around 40 bars of my own made Castille soap same thing. Ingredients are Olive Oil, Coconut Oil and Sodium Hydroxide. It's a great gentle general unfussy soap. Moisturising and gentle. it costs pennies to make the only problem with any home made soap is the 6 weeks waiting for the soap to cure. Longer is even better so you have to wait for the first batch to cure. Once done though you have two/three years supply of soap.
It's a great project for these times if you are bored. Here's a video to follow it is easier than you think.

I enjoy traditional cauldron made Savon de Marseille, Aleppo, Daphne, and Nablus soap. I enjoy scented Savon de Marseille and French Shea butter soaps. The Portuguese and Italian luxury soaps are good, although some Italian soaps do not have any added moisturisers such as Shea butter or Almond oil. British soaps such as Bronnley and Yardley are great too!. Virtually all available from TK Maxx.

Excuse the necro-thread, but I came to see if anyone had posted about bath soaps before and struck gold here.
Our shower is always full of countless bottles of herbal essences and other girly stuff, packaged in plastic and probably containing micro-plastic. I decided a few years ago to forego any plastic packaged shower products for myself and switch exclusively to bar soaps.
I dont regret it at all - it's a nicer experience all round. I am often happy with coal tar soap, but I do like to treat myself, and a big bar of good quality soap lasts quite a while thus helping to defray the initial expense.
Favourite from the past few years is probably D R Harris Sandalwood - superb quality as expected from them. Can't remember any other standouts except perhaps L'Occitane. Currently have MWF on the go and from what I can remember of the shave soap I suspect it might be exactly the same product in a different mould. Next up is Stirling Pig Trail, then I can decide what to restock with...probably something French if I haven't tried to make my own by then.

I am right on the cusp of having a go and have been reading recipes online...the only thing holding me back is the prospect of facing opprobrium if I make too much mess in the process!

It's a pretty mess free task to be honest. You will need a decent mixing bowl, a Pyrex jug or empty glass jar and something to hold the soap in for 24 hrs until you de mould it and cut it. One tip is do not wash the bowl out until the next day. The oily mess in the bowl will turn to soap overnight and will easily wash up then.I am right on the cusp of having a go and have been reading recipes online...the only thing holding me back is the prospect of facing opprobrium if I make too much mess in the process!

Signature Soaps Dragons blood...... Fantastic smelling soap, huge 140g bar. Hand made Cold processed. Lathers like a beast and leaves a nice slickness. I use it to shower and for a good pre shave on the face to soften the bristles. Rinse lightly before I use my Noxzema pre shave cream. To be honest I could probably just use the soap as the pre shave and not rinse it all off my face to leave some of the residual slickness.
