Hmmm, that reminds me, I lent all mine to a friend.
That was weeks ago.
Best chase him up on that one.

... few drops of Haramain Red African last night is still very evident tonight. It's a sweet musk with vanilla and jasmine high notes. Just a nice smell, really. Today, it's quite balsamic. I think a dab of sweet tonka black musk will go nicely over the top. Again, just a nice smell. Gives the cats something to go hunting around for and ... well, actually, helps me sleep.

ohh yea i love my attars, although what has ttaken over recently has been these 'inspired by' colognes which are basically copy cat colognes of designer brands

i have creed aventus and jean paul gaultier la male copies the creed one isnt wow but the la male one is very nice

only like £15 roughly for 50ml too

I can't decide if the ones I have seem too kind of decadent for me.
I understand why people like them very much.
But they seem a bit.... rich?
Dunno.

I am trying to work out what it is I like/dislike.

They seem a bit chewy in flavour if that makes sense.
Like.... I prefer a single malt scotch as opposed to a bourbon.... you know?

I got from sources pjgh recommended (Earlier on in the thread)and they are superb.
Amazing value.
Last days.
I have yet to see the volume decrease :)
Scent is incredible.

Again, this is something else I am a complete noob at.
But I love the oils.
The ones I have that seem decadent are (some more than others)
Black musk
Egyptian musk
Mukhallat maliki
Darbar

Don't get me wrong, they smell absolutely gorgeous and amazing.
Perhaps I need to get used to smelling like that.
(I am a simple kind of bloke.)

I also got some from pjgh as a pif to play with
khus fresh grass
lily flower
khus dry grass

plus i have
orange blossom
lime
cinnamon
mysore
honeysuckle

The latter I have played with throwing in amongst the others :)

In general, this way of doing things is way more fun than buying a spray that someone else has decided suits you.

i do like black musk but ive only ever used the cheap ones, i would imagine the more quality ones would be very nice

thing i really like about attars is the convenience that you can keep one in the car, in your jacket,
the size of it is really good and they last absolutely ages even if youre consistently putting them on tbh

Gosh! It's been a while ...

I'll refer to my initial post: https://www.atgshaving.com/threads/attar-عطار.3521/post-67060

I think (and I'm not being rude or derogatory, as smell-alikes have their place) I'd put these clones in the first category - simply, cheapo CPOs. Nowt wrong with that, and if you like them ... carry on. These will undoubtedly be completely synthesised and in denatured alcohol, so as to meet halal guidelines. What I find amusing is how you can find eastern clones of western frags which are themselves based on eastern perfumery. I'm thinking of perfumes like Dior Oud Ispahan or well, any Tom Ford.

As for where to buy, well, you can still find the artisinal blenders who make their own tinctures, blend and sell out really fly perfumes. Find them through Basenotes or Fragrantica forums. Otherwise, the majority of eBay sellers are going to be selling the oils and CPOs that you'll find in local Islamic shops ...

I tend to find myself only really looking at Fragrance of Arabia on eBay now, although abu_al_hifs keeps trotting out really nice creations. I think my only other advice would be to buy known genuine highbrow oils like Ajmal or Abdul Samaq al Qureshi (ASAQ). Ajmal's Black Musk is really fly! Costs, but worth it.
