Not puzzled, Bob. I like and appreciate the custom very much. Thank you for all of these videos you share here. I don’t comment on every one, but I do watch most of them from start to finish. And in keeping with the spirit of your intentions, I do learn from the examples you share.
You may be aware that Americans do the same thing on September 11. Multiple moments of silence are observed during the morning, at key moments of the dreadful attacks; when buildings were hit and went down, and when planes crash landed into empty fields.
But, if I may speak freely and with no intention of casting aspersions or starting any kerfuffle with you or Canada (I’m a respectful neighbor to the south), I’ve a
problem with the clickbait video title*, “AMERICANS Can’t EXPLAIN Why 41 Million Canadians go SILENT at 11 AM,” that tries to portray Americans as clods. Of course, I understand you’ve presented this video with the intent to educate and share your national history and customs. I have no issue with that at all.
Damn clickbait.*
With about thirty seconds remaining, referring to two individuals at a November 11 memorial ceremony, the ai voice says,
“… and neither of them can explain why any of that matters. It isn’t the thing that survives explanation. It’s the kind of thing that survives repetition.*
Seems if two Canadians attending the same ceremony can’t explain the Canadian tradition, then logically it’s unreasonable to expect the majority of Americans to explain it. Yes?
While I do try to maintain a world view that accommodates multiple viewpoints, as a citizen of the United States, I find it somewhat irksome the way some other world citizens view and criticize Americans as uneducated, self-centered, nationalistic fools. Some are, not all. Same as with citizens of any nation. We shouldn’t clump all people together (no matter who they are or where they’re from) based on preconceptions that apply loosely at best. Thank you for letting me get that off my chest. I hope you don’t find my words offensive. Just having a conversation.
