Lol... Let's make it official. "Beta testers needed for this one of a kind two-piece, no moving parts, minimalist GEM style SE compact razor".

I'll upload the files on Thingiverse later today after a small modification to the handle.
Cool.
I need to outsource some prints early next week anyway.
The more I get printed, the cheaper the postage per item :)
My coffee grinder adapter needs work as well before I can order.

Oi. Stop it, yu gits. A 3D printer is not in the budget but with the number of interesting designs being chugged out between the two of yous I'll end up having to buy one.

Why?
I don't own one.
I'm happy to come up with silly ideas and outsource the dirty work.

I was just kidding. Apologies I managed to offend.

Having said that, I'd have thought prototyping would have been easier with one of the smaller, cheaper printers on site.

I did not spot any offensive remarks. Don't worry.
Yes, prototyping would be easier with my own printer, but I'm staying well clear of that rabbit hole.
Frankly, I don't have the space for a 3D printer. Or extractor fans if I'd go for a resin printer. (I would)
And they probably become obsolete faster than computers do.
Next year I'd want one with higher resolution or some other neat feature.
I can order quite a few prints until I'm better off buying my own printer and consumables.
And SWMBO would most likely not be pleased to find a 3D printer in the kitchen or bedroom.
I leave all those headaches to the people doing the printing for me.
If my printer breaks I'd have to buy a new one, if their printer breaks... shrug...

I don't even have a normal 2D printer anymore - I go to the local library twice a year when I need one.

3D Printed GEM SE Razor

I just uploaded this easy to print GEM SE Razor on Thingiverse. I designed it to print without supports and the STLs are uploaded in their suggested orientation for printing. For best results, print at 0.1 layer height. You can hide the seam by placing the XY fixed origin in the center of the razor head.

The SLA files for the 3D Printed GEM SE Razor are now available on Thingiverse. The only difference is that most of the sharp corners have been rounded. Of course, you can print the SLA files with an FDM printer but it might not be able to translate the small radiuses on the comb properly, and it may just create unwanted artifacts. I did a quick test print in SLA and a 0.05 layer setting is more than enough resolution for this design.

And that lovely finish is the reason I will stay away from the own-you-own-3D-printer rabbit hole.
I have a feeling you are not doing that in your living room. Unless, of course, you are single

Lol... I have designated areas for 3d printing, and you are correct, it's not my living room. SLA printers have come a long way, and the chemistry side of it is not what it used to be. But you're right, you don't have to go down that rabbit hole if it's not up your alley.

This is really great. It's also really similar to a concept I was playing with a few years ago. Yours is definitely better. :)

@SlimGem Have you had any issues with thermal stability of SLA prints? I'd thought resins usually top out around 80°C. 🤔
Yes, but there are many variables that come into effect. I'm not an expert in 3d printing media but from my experience, resin's thermal stability varies based on color, curing method, curing time, brand, and type/size of design of course. Most resins are re-enforced with a mixture of glass or ceramics for improved rigidity and are stable near 90c. I believe they are commonly sold as rigid resins. If I print resin, it is mainly for display. In the beginning, I used to over-cure and found out the hard way that the prints were more brittle and prone to breaking. I've had all-around best results using clear resins.

Thank you! Wow! Thanks for your kind comment! Your razors are a work of art. The Sabre is one slick looking SE. I designed a GEM SE with interchangeable plates a while back and the Sabre was one of the few that inspired my idea. Of course, mine is plastic and it looks nothing like it. :)

Oh cool! Yea the Sabre started life looking quite a bit like this. Over time it morphed into a three-piece.
