Great setup mate
one piece of advice stop buying supermarket coffee.
It’s nothing to do with you being lazy it’s just a choice.
I order my coffee online which takes me all off 2-3 minutes so you can’t get any lazier than that lol
Hey, thanks!

And that's good advice.

Currently using what the wife bought three months ago when our old grinder broke for the second time. She went nuts at the thought of being without drip coffee and ordered about ten bags of pre-ground. It wasn't a big deal in the past but with the new drip pot I'd like to move to fresh. One of these days I'll get ahead of her but for now it's fine.

I was amazed at how much difference the beans made in espresso though. I tried several, and eventually landed on a lighter medium roast. By the time it gets to our local store's shelf it's usually about three weeks old. I'm sure I could buy it fresher at their storefront but it's a downtown location I don't normally drive to.

Each to our own mate there’s no write or wrong we’re all individuals.
I don’t get caught up in the snobbery but i have to say beans bought from reputable roasters or from your local coffee shop will be night & day to supermarket stuff.
In fact i’ll go as far as to say you can’t get good espresso from a supermarket.
There only two ingredients bean & water so they both need to be the best you can get it.
I wouldn’t be out of with beans 3 weeks after roast date, they normally take a week to 10 days is to release the carbon dioxide

Lol. Yup!

The industry has changed so much, and I've been fairly indifferent all my life. Thirty years ago I think we all sort of fancied ourselves coffee snobs here in the PNW with the rise of Starbucks. Which was silly. But I've had to watch a lot of YouTubes to wrap my head 'round espresso recently, and I've been watching a lot of James Hoffmann. Fresh roasted and fresh ground are basic ground-level things now. Absolutely necessary.

Moving to locally roasted for espresso has really opened my eyes. I estimate we'll be done with all this pre-ground drip coffee in about four more months, and I'll switch us to that same local roaster at that time, provided she doesn't order more off Amazon in the meantime..!
