Yorkshire Tea - Biscuit Blend

I got a box of Yorkshire Gold today while out grocery shopping. I am enjoying my first cup of it now and find it to be just fine/smooth. To me it is a lighter/weaker tasting tea than the Yorkshire Orange Pekoe Black that we have. At first blush, I think I prefer the Orange Pekoe Black which to me has more body/strength to it. Sorry, not very good at describing teas. I can save a few bucks by preferring the Orange Pekoe Black so that is a bonus. Again, nothing wrong with either.

My wife and I like both Yorkie teas, but we prefer the Gold. Your observations on the two teas are interesting in that we find the Gold has a more complex and robust taste than the OPB. We like the OPB, but find the Gold is up a notch in overall satisfaction. Both teas, however, beat the pants off other Orange Peako teas we’ve tried over the years.

Well, what am I like ?
After reading this thread yesterday it took me back to my Gran's and Mam's tea making, I have used tea bags since my apprenticeship. Today I popped out, bought a bag of Yorkshire original, a bag of Gold and a bag of Sainsbury's Red label.
Made up in my Cafetiere the 1st cup of Original was a bit strong but very tasty. I upped the amount of tea added as I use a large cup. I will get there with that one. I did enjoy it, the Gold is up next.

From memory, I'd say that Yorkshire Gold tastes very similar to Red Rose Orange Pekoe and Yorkshire Orange Pekoe Black tastes similar to Red Rose Bold which is Orange Pekoe Black. I always preferred the Red Rose Bold so it is no wonder I prefer the Yorkshire Orange Pekoe Black. I doubt most Europeans will be familiar with the Red Rose tea brand as it is a Canadian company.

Could there be a better accompaniment to cup of tea than a ginger biscuit?

I had a decorator in to do the house not so long ago, he really liked his tea and had a mug of strong tea every thirty minutes, it was probably much too often for me but I had one at the same time, perhaps twelve cups a day for four days.

Something happened to my taste receptors after all that tea, coffee tasted appallingly bad.

Perhaps named against Yorkshire Tea, the red rose is the county flower of Lancashire (excuse me whilst I spit after saying that disgusting word) the county flower of Yorkshire is the beautiful and noble white rose.

If I may go OT just for a moment. I had to chuckle when you mentioned spitting after saying that disgusting word. I immediately thought of the long running Canadian TV comedy series Corner Gas.

Tesco chocolate covered oates, 0.87 per pkt.
I am not a big biscuit (nibbler) fan.

The tea making seems to be going well.
The Yorkshire Original is a nice deep/dark flavour to me, I quite like it.
The Yorkshire Gold does seem to be a bit more refined and complex, still plenty of flavour although I seem to be getting different flavours across the tongue, very nice.
The Cheapo Red label, does its job, not a bad cuppa of decent strength. I could get away with it.

I think you have summarised the different teas very well.

Biscuits are banned from my house, I find it very difficult to stop at one or two and excuse my gluttony on the basis of a cup of tea is too wet without a biscuit.

Any love out there for a fig roll?

Fig Newtons were my Dad’s favourite. Not high on my list, but I’ll eat one now and again. Strangely, i really like dried figs.

OK, changed my mind and have become a confirmed Yorkshire Gold tea drinker. I rarely drink coffee now, maybe a cup or less a day.
