Yorkshire Tea - Biscuit Blend

The first cup of the Biscuit Tea is dreadful Bryan, it is a nice change to your Yorkshire Gold and just as if you were having a malted milk biscuit with your tea.

I actually prefer Yorkshire standard to their Gold. I do like to order some more expensive blends from The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company such as their TGFOP English Breakfast and single estate Assam varieties but pennies dictate it’s the Ringtons which is grand with me.

As far as I know, the term Orange Pekoe is very transatlantic term and refers to a grade as opposed to a flavour of tea, the best produced by the blender. Yorkshire Gold and Orange Pekoe are special, as good as the best you can buy. Yorkshire Gold, in my water, is not as dark as the regular tea but has the most beautiful flavour.

Always amuses me when the most posh English families sit down for a chat over a cup of tea they will drink Yorkshire Tea as opposed to something from a well-to-do London department store.

If you can find Yorkshire Leaf Tea as opposed to tea bags and make it in a tea pot then you are talking about a different level of enjoyment.

I am a long time drinker of TofH Yorkshire Gold, starting every morning with a cup or two. Nevertheless, I can’t answer your question R181/Bob. I do agree with Vacumatic that both teas are a cut above the others. i think this applies to their tea bags as well, although their loose leaf tea is the crème de la crème.

Thank you. I'd have to agree that the Yorkshire Orange Pekoe black tea is the best of that blend I have tasted, very smooth. Then from what you say I will hunt up some Yorkshire Gold tomorrow to try. I believe Yorkshire tea has only recently become available here or at least in our area.

While we do have a tea egg for leaf tea our usual method is to throw a tea bag in a cup of water and nuke it in the microwave. Remove the cup from the microwave, beat the tea bag with a spoon before pitching the bag. Probably a crude colonial way of making tea but it works.

I hope you enjoy the Yorkshire Gold, give it a chance though, just some boiling water poured over the tea and left for two minutes. The goal for taste and looks is less Kerrang! and fence paint, more legato and Chablis.

M&S Loose leaf gold for me.

Never been a fan of Yorkshire teas, or Harrowgate, or Twinings, or Wilkinsons... "Floor sweepings" Mother calls them! :p:

I like Lapsang Souchong, but then I like heavily-peated whisky too which my wife describes as smelling like "bonfires and death".
I too like heavily-peated whisky, but it doesn’t like me. Unfortunately, it makes my hands and forearms itch, so I must be careful. As for your wife’s description of its smell, I can understand bonfires, but death…yow. I think boxwood shrubs smell like death and my wife thinks I’m crazy.

I got a box of Yorkshire Gold today while out grocery shopping. I am enjoying my first cup of it now and find it to be just fine/smooth. To me it is a lighter/weaker tasting tea than the Yorkshire Orange Pekoe Black that we have. At first blush, I think I prefer the Orange Pekoe Black which to me has more body/strength to it. Sorry, not very good at describing teas. I can save a few bucks by preferring the Orange Pekoe Black so that is a bonus. Again, nothing wrong with either.
