(This review was supposed to be uploaded the previous week, but I totally forgot it).
Gear of choice:
Muhle R41/Gillette Nacet #2
Yaqi Timberwolf 26mm Synthetic
I started by scooping a generous amount of soap into the bowl. The consistency is like any other US artisan soap. Dense and pasty. The scent is powerful but during the shave it became milder.
I load the brush for some seconds, it seemed to be sensitive to water, it behaves like a soft cream, not an artisan soap that we are used.
The lather was damn creamy although it was not visible when the brush was fully loaded. I had the highest of expectations. First pass, WTG, nothing spectacular and I started to doubt why this soap is so expensive. Some hair were left behind. The one thing I noticed immediately though, was that it works great on sensitive skin, no heat, no stinging when applied even to lips or near the mouth area. Many soaps burn and irritate me a little, this one, no.
Second pass, the lather was a bit thinner, but it was still creamy. Again no heat or stinging. I wasn't impressed by the residual slickness though. The blade seemed to catch the skin in some areas.
And then... The final ATG pass.. Randy's gone crazy! What is this thing???! I wasn't impressed in any other pass, and in the third, it blew my mind! The lather was still creamy, I applied it quickly, and given the shave I had in the previous passes, I was expecting to cut myself or at least get some razor burn. But...NO. The razor even though it felt catching the hairs on the cheeks, was gliding with normal speed, nothing impressive, but the protection was so good that I couldn't feel the Nacet, even if it was loaded into this Beast. The soap shined in the chin area. I was able to make multiple passes without any left lather and the result was perfect. The closest possible shave ever in this area for me.
Post shave feel, one of a kind, really fantastic. 10 hours after my shave and I still feel like I’m wearing some type of mask. The splash of choice was Proraso Red and it didn't burn at all.
Would I suggest this soap, in this price point? No. But.. Wait a minute: My most important pass is the last one, to judge a soap. So yes, it worths it.
I really should get the King of Oud as well, Sri Ram, is an excellent artisan and knows what he is doing. Take my money and give it to me!
