what causes ingrown hairs?

i get them on my cheeks around the beard line and above on the cheeks for some reason, can be annoying

Ingrowns can be eliminated with proper beard mapping.

Anyway, my teacher was Mantik via youtube, I think one of the first shaving related youtube channels.

For me, ingrowns seem to result from too much pressure / over-shaving / blunt blades.

see i think i get those ingrown hairs because of excess tweezing,
i use a tweeze every other day on hairs above my beard line,
i find it as an easier way to stay on top of the beard line because sometimes when you let it grow too much, it can be more difficult and time consuming to get it right again

on a side not have you seen the beard line template tools you can get?

i ordered this one below from china on ebay uk,
reason why i got this one is because it looks a bit bigger then a lot fo them and also its transparent so you can see through it too
obviously not in a rush so will take a little longer to get here but im fine with that

Noone taught me either.
I started off with a rubbish electric razor that was given to me.
Moved on to de late teens/early twenties, then somewhere along the line started on cartridges for a decade or two.
Then realised the right way to do it about 5 years ago.
I suspect I would have stuck with it at the beginning if the internet was a thing.

yea i remember i got a cut throat razor and these super max blades when i was like 16 or something like that,
but i cut myself really badly obviously didnt know how to use it and how much pressure to use etc,
but ive still got the super max blades and the cut throat razor till today,
i mean we're talking about 2000 time, so about the millennium time lol

My dad used an electric so I taught myself with carts and canned goop. Once I switched to DE it was with help from Geofatboy and Mantic59.

i've watched a lot of geofatboy's vids but only seen a few of mantic59's vids

im surprised to see that a few of you although your fathers were present in your life you didnt get taught by them because they used electrc clippers/trimmers/shavers etc

so it made me think, do you think being close to your father makes a difference as to whether he teaches you how to shave or not?

you know some men dont show thier emotions for fear of being considered weak and unmanly

Mapping the direction of beard growth. This helps to ensure that at least the first pass is with the grain. For me this led to considerably less irritation.

Nobody taught me with the initial results you would expect from a DE razor. That was 50 odd years ago and I'm a little better at it now. With the internet now it would be much easier to be self taught, I would think.
