I didn’t know that. I love bagpipes, kilts, etc. Father’s from Aberdeen and he always wanted to play the bagpipes. My mother, however, is a Sassenach and disliked bagpipes intensely. Like my father I’d like to play the bagpipes, and like my father my wife is a Sassenach and runs in the other direction when she hears bagpipes.

Yes, there are songs played on the bagpipes that stir deep emotions in people when they hear them, at least it does for me. On the other side of the coin, I have a friend who refers to them as the agony bags.

I graduated from a college with an "orange-Irish" connection. We were led out by bag pipers playing Amazing Grace. When you graduate at 50, it seemed more than appropriate.
