What shavette did you use today?

I am hoping more members wll consider using a shavette. Today I used the Feather SS with Professiona blade just doing an ATG followed with WTG.

Well, after reading a lot about shavettes before even deciding to buy one, i stand to be corrected, but came to a conclusion that the half DE type is far less forgiving than the AC type, and it's harder to find a specimen or model with low blade exposure because of the extreme abundance of them on the market. So... I've got the AC type Feather SS clone, and if i manage to get my hands on an original, i think that will be it.

Although... The KureNai G0420 Kai Captain clone is tempting... :o_o:

Think of cutting meat in bites vs slicing. It is the angle. You simply cannot cut meat with a shallow angle and no pressure. Of course, speed kills...LOL!!!

This thread made me watch a few videos with Barbers & other folk using Feather shavette's on YouTube so I thought I would dust off my Feather AC SS & use it today. I don't ever use it if I can't dedicate some extra time for the shave though, I never rush it.

I rarely suffer from any irritation from a d/e if ever but the end result after using the Feather AC is never no irritation ever. This has never burned me, it must be the extra concentration and lighter touch I employ in the shave. (It has nicked me a few times, never major trauma though!)

They are fun to use & I enjoyed using it today. I also will use a different blade for the task in hand, more growth then use a Pro blade, if there isn't much then a Pro Guard or Soft Guard blade. I can't use the Light blade, it's not for what I would use for beard shaving so it's anybody's guess to what folks shave with that blade haha!
I like just dropping in a fresh blade & getting on with the shave.
I don't strive to move to a straight due to the maintenance & high cost of those pieces as I would probably ruin the edge trying to sharpen it. I do like seeing the straights people use on the sotds though & appreciate what they do to keep on using them.

Thank you for posting your experiences. I started with the metal Pro Guard AC blades. I chose the shavette before moving to vintage straight razors. Looking back, I am glad I did. At first there is this "tugging" that many feel and that's from too steep and angle or trying to shave too much at a time. With a DE or SE safety, the correct angle is provided for you.

Honestly, I enjoy knowing how to hone more than honing itself. My SR collection is mostly comprised of old used and abused 100 year old blades that I've been able to get sharp enough to replicate the Feather SS result.

IMHO. being able to use a shavette says you know how to shave hair. So, I encourage your progress!! :)

I can't rule out not getting a straight eventually but for the short term I will stay with my shavette.
It gives me that variation in my rotation, keeping it fun and it does a good job 👍
I wouldn't be without it & I am glad I learned how to use it ok, there is always room for improvement so I'm still learning to this day with it.

If you are in the US, I give you a nice straight . It will be shave ready per my needs.
