You just dont have to hone and strop. Some think they are less forgiving than a straight razor.

I've always given them a wide birth due to being told they are far more unforgiving than straights. Finally caved the other week when I saw a nice looking one on the Antica Barbieria Colla Facebook page, priced up at £20 delivered from G&C so went for it... Used it twice now and am really pleased with the shave it delivers, feels just like a short bladed straight to be honest. They do both half DE blade and full DE blade versions, I went for the half one.Please excuse my ignorance with the shavette but are the easier to use than straights or is it just the convenience of not having to strop and hone?
I am experienced with straight razors and just had to ask.

RazoRock Switch is the closest I've come to using a shavette. Kind of cool when you get used to is.

Yes it's probably a non-issue. Just goes to show that you can never take someone else's experience entirely as gospel, you have to try things yourself.

A similar shavette design was produced in the Soviet Union around the 1970s. This razor Alatyr was called, it can be found today on trading Internet sites, often NOS.
