I use an iPhone SE and hate it. Doing anything on Apple products is always totally counter intuitive for me, I have the same problem on the Mrs' Macbook... They look nice and are generally very well constructed but I honestly think if you're a power user they are bloody awful.
To address Chris' points above:
Apple sells your data just like every other company.
Point taken on the updates, most androids only get 2 updates in their lifespan.
Photos taken on one device available on all other devices is also easily doable on non Apple products, same for web browsing, message reading and phone calls across multiple devices. It's now baked in to Android and Windows much like Apple's "Continuity."
They do work as they should however that's not unique to Apple like it was 5+ years ago.
I'm not an Apple hater, I just know they're not for me. There definitely was a time when they were superior in pretty much every conceivable way but everyone else has simply caught up while Apple rested on their laurels. If you're heavily invested in the eco system then it makes sense to carry on with them but if not then I would stay away. YMMV
