I used to get eggs from a guy who had chickens, they were small to medium sized and every single one was always a double yolk. Very strange, but they were good!
These were supermarket “free range”.
When we get the opportunity, we try to get them from a small local producer.
Recently had some very tasty duck eggs - a lovely change from our usual.

They were organic breed chickens, and fed organic natural food to produce more protein food inside the eggs. Which is far better source of protein than cage chickens eggs.

That’s not the reason for double yokes.

Double yokes most frequently come from chickens about 9 months old (I’m remembering the ages from memory so I might be a few months off). And because they are young the eggs can often be a little small. Although the small size might also be because they chickens are a small breed.
