got a trip yesterday to see senior... and where he's at is close to Point Pleasant beach and boardwalk and that got added to the trip... salt(pepper) & vinegar french fries walking on a boardwalk has been missed...
I can imagine. Looking forward to the day when someone walks with me along the seafront and stops for a bag of chips.

I used to do something similar with mother. She used to enjoy a farmers market, we would park up and then she wanted to look round at her own pace and buy what she wanted.

We would agree to meet up two hours later and find somewhere that did tea and cream cakes, meant a great deal to her.

Much is said about surrounding yourself with people who tell you what you want to hear, sycophants. A second danger is being someone who does not read and is suspicious of people who are experts. While living this way is catastrophic when coupled with political power, there is danger on a personal level as well.

It is good to have people around that will not allow you to think any way you want. It makes you think before you speak. It is good to read. Read everything and especially from sources you think may have a different take. It is good to respect a person who has experience as well as rigorous academic training. Don't automatically think they have some agenda. For example, a medically trained professional got that way by following where the evidence took them. Absolutely there are hack in medicine just as there are hacks in any profession, but they are not the norm.

Be informed and savvy enough to tell when someone is yanking your chain. While everything may not make for a good day, you will know you are not living based on your own wishful thinking. Stop listening to people who tell you how things ought to be without telling you how, and how doing it their way works to make things better.

I recall an op-ed writer using this Hal Harvey quote in 2020, “Respect science, respect nature, respect each other.”
