What did we learn from our last shaves?

*Slice the hair off, don't scrape it off. If you're brushing your hair, the goal should be to comb the hair, not to rake the scalp. Thinking like that about straights has really helped me to use minimal pressure the last couple of shaves.

*Noxema + hot shower is good. Lather + hot towel is good. All four together is greater than the sum, and good for my skin aswell.

* A straight will melt a three day beard, making the R41 look effete and dandyfied

the feather AC is not for me - i've had it for a couple of years and it only gets an occasional run out. time to move it on i think

That a feather like touch is needed when using a PAL Injectomatic. Having used the PAL for the first time a couple of days ago - suffered soreness of the neck. Armed with new tactics, seemed to have got away with it this time. Really can feel the blade exposure compared to a Schick. I guess concentration is required :meh:

Time to revive the thread. If at first you don't succeed, try and try again.

This mornings shave meant a new soap (Prohibition Style), and I reached for my trusty Cadman silvertip. Could I get a good lather? Could I heck. The knot is just too soft to make a dent in the soap, and as such, the lather was below par for the first pass. So, in order to determine where the issue lay, I reached for my RazoRock Monster. That brush had zero issues lathering.

I put it down to the fact that the gel like tips of the silvertip knot are just too soft, and my unwillingness to really grind the knot into the soap meant getting a decent load was nigh on impossible. The cheaper boar and synthetics I am happy to grind into a soap, meaning a good lather is much easier to achieve. So much so, I did a lather video to highlight the situation.

Used a voskhod blade for the first time in ages as my stock is running low. Learnt that they are still great blades and deserve to be replaced.

I hear you @bandito ... just shaved with Proraso pre-shave menthol cream, Omega w/Eucalyptus Oil, massaged alum and Olbas Oil in and finished off with a good helping of 4711. Ahhh ...

Learned? Don't discount a family of razors just because you're from a different family - I'm a single edge shaver, discounted double edge, but I do keep in a pack of Sputniks and I do keep in a pack of Treet Carbons. I do have a small collection of DEs, one of which is a Star Tech clone. And it's lovely!

It's too hot today and I wish SMN had a greater menthol impact. So I've shoved several grams of menthol crystals into a dropper bottle of argan oil and I'll see what a drop or two does to my lather tomorrow. Similarly, after a sample a while ago, I have a full tub of Chiseled Face Cryogen on the way...
