If I live, say, another 30-40 years I think my main question is; " will the world be better or worse than it is today - and have I done anything, no matter how minor, to steer it in either direction?"

The odds are you'll disappear into obscurity and be completely forgotten within a couple of generations, just another person who was part of the terror management theory machine we call life, sorry.

Flip a coin on the first part and yes, you probably will have done a little of both in your lifetime as most all will do. All you can do is stop worrying about it, if you are, and do the best you can in the present.

Just today I got an email informing me that if I order Uber X here in San Francisco it will, starting this week, be a self driving car.

  • Is there a driver in the car?There is an experienced vehicle operator who will be in the driver seat to ensure a smooth ride. See what it looks like here.
  • How many people can join me? Three riders can fit in a Self-Driving Uber.
  • Can I change my destination mid-trip? Once you’re on your way, you will not be able to change your destination.
  • I heard there is a camera in the car. That’s correct. To learn more about how we can improve the self-driving experience for our riders, your trip may be recorded.

I was watching From the Earth to the Moon a few weeks ago (excellent BTW!) it was like science fiction and it amazed me that not only did we do that, but it happened before I was born.

44 years since we have been to the moon and it takes over 4 hours longer to fly across the pond than it did in the 70s. The future is not all it's cracked up to be!

You say, flip a coin... but apparently none of us have a coin in our pocket to flip :confused:

More to the point is - if no-one has any has any of these elusive items of small change in our pocket, what the hell are we gonna do when we want a wee? Almost all the public conveniences you encounter want you to put money in the slot before you can empty your bladder...or whatever it is you might want to empty.

I can remember you had to put one old penny in the slot when I was a couple of years younger.
