Modern for me. Rockwell 6S is the best razor I've tried.

Any really, just has to be efficient for the task and enjoyable to use.

Edit: I have sold most of my DE/SE collection (about 50+ razors) and kept an Gillette NEW LC that I use on a iKon SE handle and an ER 1912. And most of my SR collection is vintage so to answer the question if I had to choose I would go with vintage.

What are some good Japanese steel brands, if you don't mind me asking.

I'll be honest I have a 4 Japanese straight razors of which two I really enjoy, they are King Pelican and FONE. The man you want an answer from is Jamie @JamieM he is far more knowledgeable.

Vintage Gillette adjustable razors can not be beaten keep trying new razors in passaround's but not found anything that is as good as Gillette

All the usual suspects here's a small lineup, there are some great Japanese sellers on Ebay but a word of warning great Japanese razors make big money.

I have a collection of vintage Gillette Aristocrats that I wouldnt part with and would take out for a spin once in a blue moon but for every day use it has to be modern and my stainless steel Timeless.

Futur , 1 Parker 98R , 1 Maggard V3A
And 3 Ming Shi Futur replicas and I
Have absolutely no interest in ever using any vintage blades whatsoever.
