Sorry it took me a while.
A sincere thank you to everyone who dropped in and gave their time to welcome me and to those as well who came to check on new kid on the block. I think in my first ever post, I wasn’t really introducing myself but more whining about unceremonious exit from the sty. But to be honest if my no name Parker razor from 80s hasn’t given up shaving ghost, I would have never discovered how enthusiastically new generation is taking up traditional shaving. Google Keywords like wet shaving+razor porn+leather porn brought me to such forums and in the process I also discovered how to commit yourself to excesses of Blade and Soap hoarding. Progressively I lost myself indulging in splurging activities which, if become known to my late grandpa, are sure to make him turn in his grave. But since he was a Hindu and got a proper cremation, I am safe from such agonizing thoughts. However, I do feel guilty at times when I realize my father who is in his 80s, still pushing that no name boar I gave him 15 year ago. Only few months ago I quietly replaced that brush with a nice silvertip Yaqi badger and a Zenith boar; with catastrophically successful results; because every time he pass by his shaving cabinet, he has to remind whole house how loose my purse strings are.
In all honesty I tried about 10 razors and none came anywhere near to the comfort of now dead Parker. Maybe cost implications deprived me from true epicurean experience so I upped my ante and brought my most expensive razor, A Karve Brass with myriad of plates. On the flanks I have R41, a Parker Variant and couple of Razorock heads they sourced from Indian vendors, back in days. I have couple of shevettes that I honestly don’t care for. In the blades I was using Indian Gillette Blacks for like, ever since, but I discovered blade samplers online. After few dalliances with most loved blades, I have faithfully laid my spoons with 3 thousand Polsilvers, 2 thousand Blacks and sprinkle of 200 Feathers. My razor search is still on but I am not in league with $250 razors so I’ll leave it at that because I am reconciling with the fact that even best razors can do only as much on sensitive Indian skin with salt pepper thick bristles. My habit of shaving before bath makes it double the work for any razor and blade.
Hobnobbing with yanks I fell in the habit of heavily scented (and I liked it) artisan soaps as I hardly use any perfume or deodorants due to my skin type. I have about 30 odd soaps beside my staple MWF and Tabac (I know, I know). I had to take bank loan and buy new fridge to keep them soft artisan soaps going off in Indian summers. But I was new upstart and was willing to lead by pied piper; I paid the price. Once I am done with this lot, it is going to be only triple milled or milled hard soaps. I just don’t see much value in paying for water and superfat.
Always liked and preferred boars (of these I have a modest collection of about 12, mostly Zeniths) and still a Simpson and Shavemac virgin, given the price point they are at. But I do mean to have at least two badgers and get bragging rights. For now I have couple of yaqi badgers but I don’t think they are complete package against what a true badger should be like.
With this past, about time we get on with shaving discussion, on other threads.
@wintoid thanks! It is very old one and have always remind a cardinal light
@chris.hale I promise to behave myself. I am especially conscious of the fact that we must act and speak our age. I am 51 now. The only time I misbehaved in public was back in 80s when Samantha Fox came on India tour, my jaw dropped and I was salivating. Never again ever since!
Hey
@Fozzie Bear I remember you from BB and some posts about Parker variant J
@ESBrushmaker Howdy
@chrisbd I am too far gone with myself to care either for religion or politics. Thanks. I will be fine.
@UKRob thank you for kind words. They sound special to me. Have a great evening ahead.
