The Crown on Netflix is very compelling - some excellent acting, very convincing sets and terrific production values that must have cost millions.

Working my way through a Sky box full of Lovejoy re-runs. Mullets, 501s and Ford Sierras abound:cool:

For anyone watching the new, amazing show "Mars" by Nat Geo there are a number of "Before Mars" episodes on their YouTube channel.
This one, featuring the childhood of one of the crew members, was amazingly well done

Just finished the 2nd season of Red Oaks on Amazon.

For anyone who fondly remembers the proliferation of 'coming of age' films in the 80s, I'd highly recomend this - IMO it's really well done.

I've also just finished the first season of Homeland (a bit behind with that one!), and really enjoyed.

Earlier in the year I watched Billions, which, last episode aside, was excellent.

And of course there's been Game of Thrones and Vikings.

Just finished Goliath. Not bad, struggled to stick with it times. But decent enough in the end.
Battling through Vikings atm too, but I have just this minute decided enough is enough, bored shitless with it...
Now what to watch next...

Finished watching The Strain Series 3 last week so needed something else to watch. Started Lethal Weapon, but its very average and I can't see how they can develop the story & characters more than they have in the first couple of episodes....
So I have just this morning started watching The Last Ship.

Loving it so far...

We recently watched this in a near marathon. One of the best shows I've seen in quite some time. The historical aspects, the glimpse into the lives of the royals and not least to see how amputated the Queen was in her freedom to act and excert power. Had never thought much about the function of the Crown before really.

At the moment it's Hotel Halcyon. Another historical class drama. You're masters of TV shows in my book, you lot on the isles.

I'm not sure just how much credit we can claim for the Crown - after all, it's a Netflix production, but I imagine the film crew are mostly British. The real point is that their spending power is far greater than the BBC or independent programmers could possibly afford.

Just finished watching Sens8 on Netflix and it reminded me of a TV review I read recently. The reviewer made the point that where the plot dictates that anything is possible, and the improbable happens time after time, you quickly reach a stage of 'so what?'.

In this series people who have previously been killed off come back into the story as if nothing has happened - and the scriptwriters don't even attempt to justify how it was possible. So what was a promising and original series 1 degenerated into episodes of unlikely set pieces in series 2. I don't think I'll bother with any more, which is a pity because Tuppence Middleton has got a nice pair of Threepenny bits.
