Good residual slickness. I usually do just two passes followed by a touch up. After my second pass I re-wet my face and do the needed touch up without re-lathering as the residue of the cream provides enough slickness.

When you ask if they are "worth it", some perspective is in order. Castle Forbes is probably one of the more expensive ones on the list. Is it worth it? I have the Lavender and find it to be no better than some of the less expensive ones. Taylor of Old Bond Street is a good cream and frankly, isn't all that expensive. I've purchased tubs for anywhere between $14 and $17. That is downright cheap in my opinion. Maybe not as cheap as Palmolive but certainly pretty reasonable when you consider the cost per shave. I have not used Trumper, DR Harris or Salter. I don't feel the need since I find TOBS to satisfy my craving for english creams at a more reasonable price point. Bottom line, there are lots and lots and lots of creams and soaps on the market, many of them of high quality. And because of that, I don't feel the need to spend lots of money on stuff like CF, even though I bought a tub some time ago because I heard so many raving about it. Now I know. And I'll now only try samples before I spring for full tubs of stuff.

I didn't like the performance of the Real Shave Co cream.
Maybe I will try with less water. No residual slickness and no good lather. Probably brushless cream?

I found it almost identical to TOBS. I find when a cream under performs adding more product usually resolves things, could be worth a try?
I agree with you completely. TOBS has been my number one cream for years (Rose, Lavender and Avocado) and I like to visit their shop on Jermyn Street whenever I’m in London. I also like their aftershaves. From time to time I’ll buy Trumper GFT shaving cream and T&H 1805. My other staple shaving cream is Maca Root. I recently tried Castle Forbes Lime shaving cream and was hugely disappointed; I found it difficult to lather well and the lather It made lacked slicknes and cushion. Its price is exorbitant to boot.

Oh and the moisturizing cream from RS is really good.

I didn't like the TOBS balms. Expensive and don't help reduce irritation.

Interesting point on the TOBS balms. I absolutely love TOBS Mr. Taylor's Luxury Aftershave Balm. I find it to be the least greasy of them all and a very very very small dab on my finger covers my entire face, soothes it and moisturizes it in the dead of winter. I've tried it up against Nivea Men Sensitive and Proraso White. For me TOBS hands down. More proof that everything in this is YMMV.

Yeah I didn't like the Nivea.Proraso Blue balm that I have is good but nothing special. Im very picky with the balms.Two are the best balms for my sensitive face. Speick & Faena.
I don’t like balms of any kind. After every shave I use an alcohol-based aftershave mostly TOBS.
My skin is on the oily side so I normally don't use balms either. I just use alum followed by a regular AS.

If the assorted Penhaligons scents agreed with me more, having some in the rotation would be a certainty. To me, it's a top tier cream as far as cushion and slip, plus it lathers into something thicker than usual and very easily accomplished as well. I would stay away from the soaps since I couldn't tell you which versions are the good ones. Some are real bad and some ain't.
Pretty strange seeing all the knocks for CF creams. More of a trick to getting the best lather made up, because of the croap like texture but great when done correctly. Gotta make sure all the product is being used. Yep, performance for me is excellent.

The only knock I have against CF creams is that I do not believe they are worth the piece. I get as good a shave with the new Maca Root & Aloe as I do with the CF. The CF may be better but it is not 3x better for me.

The scents of the CF are obviously better but the performance of the Maca is way better. Top class slickness although the CF holds more water than the Maca, which is a bit sensitive to water ratio.
