The Winning Razor by WSC/YPM…..

Just unpacked mine. It arrived in a cardboard envelope but well enough padded inside and there’s no damage. I’ve now cleaned it with bathroom cleaner and it’s looking quite sparkly sitting there loaded with a Gillette Stainless Steel blade in it. It looks an awful lot like a Henson for gap and exposure so we’ll see how it works tomorrow morning.
Regarding shipping notifications, USPS still report it as being in the US.

Did you have any updates from Royal mail?

That is indeed the worst named razor ever! I cannot think of a worse name.. wait!!! I can!! What if someone named a razor ‘Merica lol Can you imagine!!!!

That would be truly sad.

Im still enamored with my purple Henson.

First impressions are of a very well machined, chunky, very high value for money $50 razor. In fact it's hard to believe this costs just $50 and is made in America.

It's slightly heavy (118g) for my tastes but it's well balanced, just slightly head-heavy and the handle at 85mm is the right length for me and the rings and unpolished finish provide perfectly good grip. The razor looks incredible for a machined finish - really impressive. The blade exposure is small, one of the smallest I've used and the head shape and base plate create a clearly defined 'angle' to use it at. In this respect it's very similar to the Henson, except the Winner doesn't clamp the blade right near the cutting edge.

I've just had a very good result with my first shave, except it has the effect of sucking / dragging the skin due to the large flat surface either side of the blade. It's an effect I don't like but one that the first few shaves of the Blackbird also had. With the Blackbird that feel stopped after 3 or 4 shaves and it went on to become my favourite DE razor. We shall see how the Winner fairs. One thing I did notice was that the Winner is very comfortable ATG and after three passes I'm BBS and my skin feels completely untraumatised (unlike the Menlo). It also has a touch of blade feel which I find appropriate and enjoyable.

The Menlo Nealon and the Winner are diametrically opposed razors. The Menlo requires your complete attention and rewards you, or not, accordingly, whereas the Winner is shaving on cruise control.

I understand everyone’s frustration with receiving their Winner as shipping communications is abysmal (in no small part by the USPS as well). However, I believe the majority of you will be satisfied with your purchase. It is a surprisingly good razor. I do not own nor have I shaved with a Henson, so I can make no comparisons. The handle’s grooves (as small as they look) actually provide good grip from slipping; the head clamps down securely on the razor blade. The magnet embedded in the base of the handle can be considered a gimmick or useful depending on whether you use it or not. The eighteen lather holes on each side of the baseplate extract lather well and are visually pleasing. The machining is impressive for the price. If you look closely to the edges of the top cap and baseplate you will see additional machined chamfering to remove edges. If someone wished to polish their Winner it would not take that much sanding and polishing to achieve a mirror finish. I did polish mine, but did not sand it, to add a bit more sheen to the overall appearance.

Achieving a BBS is not immediate and does take a bit more, for me, as I require some additional buffing. The top cap threaded post could be a little longer in length, but I like a shorter posts when traveling as I like to keep the head and handle separated and a longer post can sometimes prove detrimental if my dopp kit gets crushed in my luggage.

From the 19th, travelling within the USPS network, mine is now showing in Langley. Could have come via Hong Kong for all I know. No idea where it travelled from shipping point.
