New 1 series, so FWD. last one was RWD so it’ll be interesting to compare the 2 through the winter. Never had an issue with the RWD tbh
All my cars since 1990 have been FWD and I can say in snow they do much better than RWD once you get used to the FWD.

My 17-year old Lexus IS300 was RWD. It could be a real bugger in deep, wet snow, on ice and on slush. I sold it last month and bought an Audi S5 with AWD. I can’t wait to see how the Audi performs this winter.

Just keep in mind AWD does not stop any faster in snow and ice.

You’re right, but I was thinking in terms of getting moving and going up hills/inclines. Also, if I accelerated too quickly on the flat or going uphill the Lexus (and Volvos I previously owned) would really fish-tail. My wife’s had AWD SUVs for the last 20 years, so I’m no stranger to the peculiarities of AWD. Importantly, I have winter tyres on my Audi, as my wife has on her Audi, which shortens the stopping distance and improves handling compared with that of all season or summer tyres. I don’t know why winter tyres aren’t mandatory in Ontario as they are in Quebec in the winter.

Not uphill.
Based on my experience with my RWD cars and my FWD cars over nearly 50 years, I’d say that FWD is noticeably better on hills. RWD snow performance can be improved with bags of sand and/or breeze blocks, etc. in the boot/trunk, but the traction of FWD is still better.

From experience I'd beg to differ. I also have about 50 years of driving RWD, 4X4 not to be confused with AWD and FWD. My 1978 GMC Jimmy was the best so long as you had the front axle locked. The rest were cars and AWD has always had the edge for traction in snow and ice for me. All of them were even better if you ran snow tires in the winter.

Living in Kent and surprised that Middle Aged and Elderly couples are still going around Supermarkets together. The worst thing is that they seem to have total disregard for others with regard to social distancing.
I shop on my own as do most of my aquaintances, and wonder why so many do not show common sense now that we are in Tier 3, and have some of the highest infection rates in the Country.

The school I currently volunteer at (also work there in a different position) would rather hire an agency supply teaching assistant rather than give me relief hours.

I have a BSc psychology ,early years educator level3 diploma, years of experience working with children in different roles and my other job is as a fostering support worker for looked after children with traumatic / abusive backgrounds.

I guess I know where I stand with the school...

Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary General, has called for world leaders to declare a State of Emergency over climate change. This is coming right from the top now. It hasn't stopped the moderators having to close the thread on climate change because it was being sabotaged by those who are unable to open their eyes to what is happening. Grrrr..... this is too important.

Even though I agree it is a very important issue, there is no point in bringing it up again as it will only unfortunately turn into a can of worms again.

I can see your point, of course. But I can't help thinking that it's perfectly fine to talk as much as we like about fast cars, eating beef and all the rest of it. Some people just can't deal with the unpleasant truths. So we go on sweeping them under the carpet. Like we've been doing for years and years and just carry on doing. It's "easier" that way.......
