The Leaf Razor review

I swore blind that my razor buying days were over , I was going to be content with my Hawk stainless steel razors .
A feeling of well being and contentment came over me .
I sold most of DE razors .
Still have a few Gem’s and Injector’s .
Then I looked in my DE razor blade drawer , there is a couple of thousand blades in there and I read this thread .
Result ?
Chrome leaf ordered , I don’t like the $35 shipping charge mind you ,but, it’s on its way , it looks quirky and I like quirky .
Sorry to disappoint you......but Agentshave in the UK sell them!

I used my new Leaf razor for the first time tonight and must admit to being impressed with it.

I used 3 Derby saloon blades and was surprised at how smooth these felt in the razor. The DE blades are possibly the worst I’ve ever used and it was a real pleasure using them this evening.

The razor felt awakard around my face and I doubt that I’ll use it for this task again. The spring felt too strong and this took a lot away from the shave itself.

Where this razor really shines is as a head shaver. It felt great and was very smooth and efficient in this role. The handle didn’t feel intuitive around the base of the neck and I think some trial and error is needed to find the optimum handle position.

It definitely will have a place in my head shaving rotation and it’s up there with the best head shavers I’ve found so far. 🙂

First shave today with the chrome leaf.
Went full tilt with 3 x new Nacets.
First impression was why is the handle so long? I suppose chopping an inch and a half off the length would not do much for the aesthetics but I would question if the shave would suffer. Did not find it slippy though.
Blade loading was a tad fiddly. Whenever I thought they were all ok I would lock it down then get ocd over how straight / level they appeared when closed even though they seemed to be sitting correctly. This took a few attempts. The shave was actually very efficient but of course different. The head tilted fine and I did not find it too loose or strong. I went with my usual 3 passes ( or does this translate to 9 ? ) then some buffing. The end result was SUPER smooth although the alum did suggest that this had been a bit more aggressive than I am used to. Maybe new blade syndrome. I did also cop a small weeper but that is not unusual with a new Nacet ( let alone 3 ) which I find improve no end from shave 2 onwards. Yes, the top lip was an issue to start, certainly WTG and Across but I actually found that I got the required result with going against which I always do again through an ocd need to get the top lip smooth in all directions. Clearly because of the position of the bottom blade in relation to the bottom of the head. What is the point in shaving it unless you do it properly! ? Somebody mentioned clogging - I did find myself rinsing it more than seemed normal.

Cleaning? I think I will give that a miss other than a rinse and a dry until the blades need changing out. Too many nooks and crannies for a deep clean and dry without a toothbrush and I don't think I will be dismantling the blades until they need it. Even then it will be left to air dry due to all the moving parts. I do think the missus will take to this but time will tell and if she does then it will work out very cost effective. Will this be my 'go to'? Not at the moment but it will be good to see how the blades perform 2nd time out and also with different blades and a reduction in blade numbers.

I am actually glad I pulled the trigger on this as it makes a pleasant change to use something very different. This is very different, well for me at least.

That review very much echoes my own. The good news is that as you learn the correct pressure and your preferred blade arangement it does get better, you'll be having great shaves from it in no time.

How’s the handle grip on these? I’ve heard some say they are a bit slippery, but they seem to have 5 or 6 different colors, and at least 2-3 types of finishes, so maybe some are grippier than others?

2nd shave in.. kept the 3 x Nacet and as expected SO much smoother 2nd time out. Stirling Bay RUM used with a touch of Bluebeards revenge that I keep forgetting on the shelf., Yes it definitely clogs quick but that is no issue. Very nice shave again BUT still get ~BIG time feedback on the alum. Convinced this is now a 3 blade issue but not one that really matters.

What I did find is that this razor gives a REALLY nice 1st pass.

Don't forget 1 pass with the Leaf is Two with a DE.

Used my new Leaf now 2 times now. 1 time the face (will not use that forthis , but keep that with a straight or DE) and now 2 times with my head, used 2 half Feathers, must say with 2 passes and a little clean up my head is smooth.

Only trouble so far is just beside were my ear begins the head is too big, so had to use a DE for that.
