Interesting question. I'd have to say - both.
For DE blades, - it's GSB's, with the occasional shave via a personna red or a Kai.
For DE razors - My ATT H1 on a UFO Grand Titan L is everything I need.
For SE - I was happy with the very smooth ATT SE1, but wanted something more aggressive. The asylum RX is quite smashing, and that's likely where I'll stay.
For SE blades - I thought feather pro's/pro-supers were endgame, but a generous wetshaver is sending me a couple schick proline blades to try.
For soaps - CRSW and Mike's are my staples, with occasional foreys into Saponificio Varesino and Pannacrema Nuavia. Would like to try jabonman, T&S, and B&M glissant - but no rush. I do like to experiment with soaps and see controlled purchases in this area.
Aftershaves - I've got a number of splashes that see regular use. Speick, D R Harris, fine accoutrements, etc. I've got a few tonic/light-balms that I like: CRSW, SV. I've nailed down balms to: simpsons unscented, village barber, soap, commander, and sapone Di Paolo.
That leaves brushes. I love brushes, badgers to be specific. I probably do most of my exploration here. This is the area - beyond soaps, that I'll continue to buy/trade over time. There is no logical reason, as I have every brush I sought out to find... but still I am reminded of the first time I lathered with a M&F and was taken beyond what I thought possible. I could probably just commission customs from a Bernd at Shavemac and be happy!

Destination. Its just shaving, so if I have to do it anyways, might as well use the good stuff.

Well, it is like travelling somewhere nice from somewhere you don't like living.
It is quite a journey to get there, but well worth it.
Doesn't mean you don't stop and enjoy the views on the way.
Or get out and have a little walk. Or take some detours for possible future destinations.
So, it is destination ultimately, but when I get there, I will still likely have little walks and explores.

I'd say the journey is part of the enjoyment. Who doesn't like trying a new soap?
Having said that, I have found myself using only 3 of my 8 razors recently and I only own 3 brushes. My soap collection has never been massive, I've just completed 2 which brings it down to 3 soaps.
I will be trying some more soaps, but always end up torn between a new scent of a soap I like our a brand new soap.

Destination, definitely.
The journey was instructive and absorbing for a while, not to mention more expensive than I would have imagined. Some time ago I settled on the few items that work well for me. Now I just enjoy the shave rather than distracting myself with endless choices to consider and compare each day.
As with many things in life I prefer simplicity, and as some have stated, it is just shaving after all.

Mine is an endless journey for the next great one. I have razors, soaps, aftershaves, brushes and more that totally hit "The One" title but I keep trying other hardware and software not cos I have a space to fill but more so what if there is something better lol. Its prob greed or as on wife says a form of an obsessive disorder lol.
Naw, it is a mainly men's affliction summed up as " He who dies with the most toys wins".

I have a distant memory of the notion that DE shaving would make economic sense, but it's rare I do anything without a 'bit of research'.
My research in this instance was about finding quality products that work for me,, fit with my values, and don't infringe too much on my minimalist-like ideal.
My research started with Geo Fatboy, then led to forum lurking (Badger & Blade) and then posting (B & B & TSR), before finding ATG.
I've bought and sold; bought, sold and re-bought; and in some cases bought, sold, re-bought and re-sold (FFS!
).
In many ways some of my worst tendencies have been 'activated' (impulse buying, habitual forum checking, lack of patience, wanting to try everything...), but at the same time I've enjoyed the journey, learned a lot, and made some pleasant acquaintances along the way (having been on a number of forums in my time, shaving, mod, skinhead (non-political!), martial arts and community), I can safely say that this is the best run, most friendly place I've visited.
I think though that I've now reached my destination. I still have a few bits to move on, but apart from coverting a couple of the SV brushes, I am more than happy with my current SV and Panta Rei brushes, my 6S, a couple of soaps and aftershaves.
Of course, no matter how much I love home, it's always nice to have a holiday, but I think I've finally achieved my aim (apart from the money saving one of course!) - a relatively minimal collection of products that work for me at all levels.

This is how I want to be but my mind, spirit and soul see a new product that calls to me lol. And the point that echos is I have found better products like this.
