The Daily Double Shave
Sunday 23 August 2026

first pass Feather DX Kai Pink (lost track)
second pass Razorock GOAT* Weber Wave Viking Sword (2)
Semogue 1250
AoS Valobra 3x milled unscented
Splashup Splashdown Harris Fine Stephan

I’m learning every time out with the DX. It gets a little more precise by the sideburns and around the van dyke. I continue to be impressed by how close the first pass is with this razor. At some point soon I will use it for the second pass and a safety razor just for touch ups.

*Re: the DE razor, no, it is not. At least for me. I prefer any other of my DE razors. This rr goat reminds me of the rex envoy which I found tuggy and meh at best. Granted, it’s only a handful of shaves, but I am waiting to be wowed. Somehow I don’t see that coming… Regardless, it was a really enjoyable shave.

The rare triple shot splashup was great! Harris first, then the ubiquitous Snake Bite, and finally Stephan to close. Outrageous!

A solid 9/10 Sunday shave with just a wee bit of stubble left of the laryngeal notch.

All of us may revive the interest in replaceable blade straight razors.
I’m currently obsessed!

I went with the Feather SR. It seems different enough from the DX to be worthy of adding to the den. Then I figured, well since I love the Proline injector blades, I have to try the AC Prolines. And then I figured, since I’ll have two folding Feather razors, I’ll need a nifty little stand to conveniently store and display them. It is from a company called Triton. Found them on Etsy.

Ha! Don’t think it hasn’t occurred to me already :D

I ventured into uncharted shave territory today. First and second pass was with the Feather, and the DE just for touchups around the van dyke. Against the grain felt kinesthetically “awkward.” btw, I say against the grain, but it was really more of a basic south to north on the neck. I’m perplexed by the grip I need for certain maneuvers. Sometimes I find the scales obstruct my line of site when working near the right sideburn. I’m not too worried about it, though. It’ll come in time I’m sure. Part of me wonders if a kamisori style handle would be an advantage or a cop out.

I’m really glad to have ventured into this new way to shave. It’s more fun and exciting than ever! Today was a revelation. So smooth with clear baby-like skin. Like I said in the SOTD post, no nicks, no blood, no errors.

I’m excited for you, brother. It’s always fun to learn and stretch yourself a bit.

I could suggest things, but you’ll enjoy it more if you figure it out .

Thanks, Chuck
I suspect one of your tips is likely “use two hands.” Although I’m left handed, I‘ve always played right handed guitar because to me it makes more sense for a lefty. My left hand is the smarter, stronger and in many ways more dexterous of the two. I question my right hand and arm’s ability to function with sufficient surety and stability to shave with an open blade on my face.
