Glad to help 🙂

Can you expand on the Mild + description on the website, you put the original Hone as just Mild?
This is how I try to communicate the idea of mild and efficient. The blade gap on the razor is 2.5mm, so relatively generous. But the razor is still mild. This is due to a zero exposure + large'ish blade gap + head shape. With a good blade gap it still shaves close because the skin naturally deforms a bit, but does it in a way that you don't get the razor burn you would typically expect with a 2.5mm gap... So mild plus... I think this messaging can be improved but not sure how at the moment.

Thanks for the explanation but the + suggests you can feel the blade a tiny bit more with the SS versus the brass? They are just as efficient as each other?

I have just published a post on the Stories section of Hone with a timeline for the pre-order. Stories — Hone® Shaving (hone-shaving.com)

I am planning 3 e-mail updates for those with a pre-order.
  1. To share the pre-production samples and status.
  2. When the production starts, to update you on the delivery window and if there are any changes to the timeline.
  3. Two week prior to shipping so that there is a chance to update any information on your order if needed and to start getting excited for your new Type 15s.

Let me know if there is anything you miss or would like to see added.

I was able to procure a Hone 15t and have been shaving with it for the last week. Since the geometries are apparently the same, I will go ahead and second the "Mild, Efficient" description. This is a razor where you have to ride the cap. I am normally more bar-oriented in my shaving; if you do this with the Hone razor, it will cut nothing. My initial reaction to my wife: "Uh, I think I just spent a lot of money on a razor that doesn't actually shave." [She just looked at me and walked away.]

But if you adjust and ride the cap, you can get an ATG BBS shave with minimal risk of nicks. I started with a Persona (the medical prep ones) and couldn't cut myself if I tried. This really allowed my to find the angle, since I could buff without irritation. I popped in a fresh Feather yesterday and got a nick or two (that I could see but not feel and stopped bleeding almost right away). On the next day (today) got a BBS shave with slight irritation in my sensitive spots, but this is not abnormal for testing out a new razor with a fresh Feather. I usually get my smoothest shaves from the Feather on days 3-5, so tomorrow I expect a great shave.

With all other "mild" razors I have owned, like the Feather AS-D1, Feather AS-D2, RazoRock Mamba .70 and Rocnel Elite 2017, if I chased a BBS, I would end up with nicks and irritation, especially on daily shaves. This razor defies logic because I can use it every day, buff if I need to, and it gives me a perfect close shave.

Since I've got the 15t, for now I'll refrain from buying the 15s, but it really is a great razor, and I do like the cool stand that the 15s will come with.

:highfive:

Thanks for sharing your experience @Zhang Doe. Really glad you found something in the Type 15 that works for you! And hope you are happy with your 15t for many years! I think you really nicely described the journey I took trying to create a comfortable close shave. I worked hard to make something different but arrive at the smooth close shave all the same. Great to hear how you found your ideal shave with it.

I've updated the geometry picture on the site at the request of a few people which I think fits this conversation. I have avoided putting this on the site in the past because people can get very fixated on one particular feature of the geometry like the blade gap. But in my testing its more of a system. I think what you are experiencing and describing is the balance of zero exposure mixed with the geometry to support and shield the blade being relatively open but also controlled along the plane of contact between the razor head and the skin. My top cap is not a pure radius, but actually blends from a curve to a straight....

Hi @jphelan81 @Rowlers Thank you for your comments :) Hearing that makes my day. I am really excited for this stainless version with the new manufacturer, I'm hoping it sets a new benchmark for me.

The pre-order window will stay open until 2 weeks before I can ship orders. That's tentatively the end of February, I will give warning about the pre-order closing, and transitioning to 'normal' orders though. Timelines are a little bit tricky at the moment, but fingers crossed my conservative approach is still on track.

I am expecting the first full production samples this week; or at least first sight of them. I believe the supplier has them and is doing an internal check against my quality report and spec before they send them out as final, they are very keen to have it right. I hope the new lockdown tiers in the UK don't have an impact, but will wait to hear.
