Speick Stick Reformulation

Yes, based on three shaves for me it's thinner and less creamy than the previous tallow. Don't get me wrong, it works and it may require a different lathering technique (I'll give it more chances). But currently lather from the new stick just doesn't burst into life for me like the old one.

By way of comparison, I find the Haslinger changeover more successful - I actually can't tell the difference and continue to use the new, veggie version of that stuff.

I've not tried Tabac, ether old or new (due to the scent which isn't my cup of tea).

That’s basically what I found with old and new Tabac Michael, I suspect that Tabac and Speick were, and still are, the same soap or very close. That said, I did find the new Tabac a tad slicker and the new Tabac scent is closer to the AS than the old which is a good thing.

Anyone else tried the veggie stick?
Used the vegan stick today...brilliant!!

Speick nailed the reformulation!

If the tallow version was 10/10, the vegan stick would be a solid 8/10.

Also, the tallow sticks I bought recently have a scent of lavender with a hint of minty-ness.
The vegan stick has reverted to the original spicy/herbal scent which I fell in love with over a decade ago.

I'm going to stock a few of the vegan version as I'm thoroughly impressed by it!!

This is great news, glad they've not ruined it. :)

Yah...The very slightly less density compared to the tallow doesn't make much difference in performance.

But the reversion to the herbal/spicy scent is something I'm ecstatic about...I adore this scent!!
Your descriptions, aside from the scent of course, are exactly mine regarding the new Tabac, which does not seem to be as well received.

New Tabac is as you say, a little less dense, but also a little slicker and the scent is more true to the AS.

Just checked my Speik stick and was relieved to see that it has tallow in it, along with “skin-soothing lavender”.:okay:

TBH I'm leaning more towards non-tallow soaps these days, I have oily skin and tallow-based soaps appear to exacerbate it.
Chris, I'm in the same boat with oily skin and used the veggie Tabac for the first time, this morning. Pretty decent shaving performance, BUT, my skin has been feeling pretty waxy and clammy. Don't get this with many current artisan tallow soaps.

I have read good things about veggie tabac.
Great to hear of another successful reformulation.

That makes Speick, tabac and haslinger!

I use tallow soaps more in winters and veggie in summers so my skin gets a little less oily later in the day.

I’m still in the process of identifying which soaps may make my skin more oily, tallow is just one ingredient and it may be something else. I really need to start a list as my memory’s pants.

Chris, keep an eye on the soaps with lanolin and/or shea butter. They’re added to make a post-shave effect and it seems that it takes more washing out of the brush to remove all the residue from them, especially lanolin if it’s over done. Adding these in higher amounts seems to affect the post shave more than tallow vs non-tallow soaps.

A pure coconut oil soap like Martin de Candre is a good reference soap, after you shave with MdC there will not be anything on top of your skin but air.

Good luck and keep us informed of your findings.
