Saturday 21st March...

A simple shave to start the weekend. Dr Selby is the most underrated soap I own by a mile. It has a good lavender scent - for those who enjoy a floral scent - but its cushioning sets it apart in the vegetal world for me. Left my beloved Nacets and went back to another blade which at the start of my journey caused me issues and surprise surprise it didn't - Permasharp #1.

Enjoy your Saturday and weekend and I hope the Sun is shining wherever you may be...

WestMan Utopia (Original Formula)
Yaqi Katana SE (Half DE) Gunmetal (6c Handle)
Gillette 7 o'clock Super Stainless
Yaqi Caramel 26mm Synthetic
WestMan Utopia Emulsion

Scent: Pipe Tobacco, Oud, Vanilla, Cedar, Vetiver, Benzoin.

This is the original tallow formula from Master Tiago, before Nirvana base was released. Soft enough, but after use turns to become rock hard.

Scent is straight heavy tobacco smell, not sweet & very different than Cavendish from PAA (which I love). It gives the vibes of a "fine older gentleman" from the 70's, and it's not for a blind buy. I like it a lot though. Medium strength off the puck but fills the bathroom when wet. Warm & Strong.

The balm is even more prominent, sharper and long lasting, heavier & more bold, penetrates the nostrils within seconds. Lasts for 4-5 hours after the shave, with top class hydration/protection and quality, dries perfectly on the face.

I thought I would tried again something that didn't work for me in the past:
The Caramel to my experience was a lather thief & the razor way too aggressive that bites a LOT.

It's supposed to be a G7 knot (Lather Master) , with powerful backbone although low glue bump, that feels a bit screechy on the face.

Loaded for 25-30 seconds aggressively, and the proto lather wasn't something special. The soap doesn't explode initially, needs patience and water drip by drip although seems that cannot hold it, because of the greedy brush.

Introducing air by swirling the brush didn't help, my face was still visible underneath the lather. Started painting moves similar to Mauro Di Lernia (before the beard). Soap reacted then and the density was increasing. More and more water in small quantities and then, BOOM. Although the structure was on the lower end, the density was definitely stronger.

I ended up with a crazy first pass lather, with great volume, density and body, it was insane. Could hold water easily and no air bubbles were visible. Slickness off the charts before even the first pass. The brush still holds lather but worked way better this time. Beautiful flow through, I now see why it's called Lather Master (originally named by Frank Shaving).

The razor has similar aggression to the R41, but it's smoother with the right blade inside, doesn't pull a lot the hair and needs very light pressure. If you press down, it WILL cut skin, because it instantly digs into it.

2.5 passes were more than enough for an easy and beautiful DFS. Didn't go any further to protect my face. The soap worked wonders for me and definitely is better than the recent Nirvana base in all aspects. Persistent residual slickness, the last pass/touch ups , I only needed some water on the face without any visible lather. Insane quality and performance.

Hands down a winner for me along with Halo vegan formula. I still don't get the need of the Nirvana base so soon. He replaced all his soaps with the new formula. Thankfully I have this one and the Rastilho in the older base. If I find another one in stock, I will get one more to stock. Nirvana never worked for my taste.

Thanks for reading. I was impressed.

Aleppo soap - Shave pre wash
Omega 11126 boar
Myrsol Antesol soap
PAL Injectomatic de Luxe
Schick S/S single - Japan ( 3 )
Myrsol Antesol A/S Lotion

This Shave and my last one was with a Vintage Razor, but this time with an injector rather than an SE using a Gem blade.I have used modern versions of both types and am of the opinion that the modern ones are no better than the oldies.
Today’s Shave was with a PAL Injectomatic de. Luxe, and it shifted 5 days growth with ease by using very short strokes.Again I was careful not to rush the Shave, and checked finish by touch as the Shave progressed ,and as a result got a nice close all round finish.I think that this version of the Injectomatic is perhaps a bit milder than the standard version.

Pre shave: Hot shower and Neutrogena glycerin soap bar
Razor: 1958 Gillette TV Special super speed
Blade: Feather (3)
Brush: Yaqi Sigrada familia 24mm synthetic
Bowl: Arran Stone
Soap: Glasgow soap company Iron Brew
Post shave: Nivea men sensitive cool post shave balm

A not quite perfect, yet still enjoyable Saturday shave, today.
All went well for the first two passes with the TV special, with effortless glide and efficiency.

Part way through the 3rd pass though, I started to feel that telltale tug, and was left with a slight weeper on a place on my neck where I don't usually get them, which was surprising on a blade that was only on its third use.
That's a new record low for a feather for me, so off it went to the blade bank.

Despite that slight demerit, I was still left with great results overall, and got to enjoy a shave on a nice sunny spring day with the air filled with that amazing Fruity tang of the iron brew scent.
It took me back to days in the park with friends when I was a kid.

Have a great weekend!
