The R89T just works, no bells or whistles, it just shaves really well. When looking at reducing the collection i give rarely used razors a run out, this one always manages to show me it deserves its place in the collection.

I am finding this adjustable and other mild Gillettes harder to use than my modern razors. It’s milder than Variant even at higher settings (smaller gap range and less blade exposure), and it is far more sensitive to the shaving angle, so I end up scrubbing some areas too much and getting irritation. Pairing them with the sharpest blades available helps.

This time it was an almost perfect shave. I’ll keep trying.

Hot shower prep with Dr Squatch

The Van der Hagen soap is so lightly scented that it couldn't clash with the English Leather. As usual it built a lather quickly. I transfered the brush to my shaving mug and evened out the lather. The first pass made a good reduction. Second pass rendered a close enough shave. Even though there is enough alcohol to require a fire warning it didn't burn that much.
