Sorry for the late entry, been a long day, shaved, trip to Olympia and the original Olympic game circa 776 BC - ish. Very interesting. Meal back on board, cases repacked having a few G&T's before bed.

The first ever start line, blocks of marble, the track was either 98 or 198Mtrs, I need to check that
"starting blocks" you could say.

I did a sharpness test on a hundred year old razor I've been restoring. It's not shave ready yet and I'm going to send it back through the stones. Shaving with a straight reminds you how comparatively effortless DE shaving is. You trade some closeness for ease of use but it is a reasonable trade IMHO. Since the straight did knock down most of the stubble I did two passes and called it good enough. Canoe's high alcohol content did bite a bit. The wild country pairs well with the Canoe.

Friday, 22 May 9/10 - close, but a bit of the red stuff. I got the Boti 25mm horse-hair knot and glued it into the pumice handle I carved. It works well as a shave brush, but I will need to work it out over a few shaves before Ai deliver a verdict.
Its been a very busy week. Today was a 9/10 shave that left me with a few nicks on my neck. I think I just wasn't paying attention.

I got the Boti 25mm horse-hair knot and glued it into the pumice handle I carved.

I've never seen handles (or any other product) made of pumice before. This looks really cool! Could you provide some more technical information (type of pumice, what it was processed with, how it was processed, what it was coated with)? Thanks!

Thanks @TRS - no tech specs, I'm afraid. It's just a piece of pumice I found on the beach. NZ beaches have quite a lot of it. I just set to with a rasp and a piece of hacksaw blade, and carved it up. No coating, no treatment other than a rinse in water overnight - I carved it while wet as that keeps dust down to a minimum. Once it was shaped, i sanded it down with 80 grit to 400 grit wet and dry paper. Its easy to work and shape it. One property it has is grip... the texture won't slip out of your fingers!

Great job! How did you form the mounting surface for the unit, and what kind of glue did you use? Are you planning on covering it with something to protect it from soap scum? Or is it easier to just make a new handle eventually?

Great job! How did you form the mounting surface for the unit, and what kind of glue did you use? Are you planning on covering it with something to protect it from soap scum? Or is it easier to just make a new handle eventually?

I used a 13mm masonry drill to make a pilot hole in the top (by hand - no drill needed!) and carved it bigger with a flat blade screwdriver I had lying around, measuring it to make sure I didn't make it too big. I glued the knot with hot melt. I may make a base from builder's bog, as the pumice could end up scratching the acrylic bathroom surface. I doubt I will seal it, and will probably use it until it breaks and make another handleb. It was really a bit of an experiment - a what if thought - that turned into an enjoyable bit of crafting.

Friday 22nd May...

I forget at times how solid a performer this razor is. The Supermax Diamond Blue Platinum #2 is still supremely sharp and working well. Keep need to reminding myself about only doing one pass on sensitive areas on the neck. Very smooth finish indeed.
