Pre-Shave: Proraso White

Razor: R41

Post Shave: Nivea Sensitive Post-shave Balm/ New Republic Aloe Gel

First shave in a few days. I had some wicked razor burn from my old $2 Gillette razor from Asia. After using it for 10 years, you would think I would have been able to flip back to it with out any issues, but I nicked myself pretty good and scaped my face pretty good. I guess I was too comfortable with a closed comb. My razor burn cleared up and took the hair down with open comb and had zero issues. No aggravation at all and hardly any stinging from the alum block. I shaved pretty quickly too. I'm surprised how I actually shaved better with the open comb.

Also I changed it up with my direction on this one. I noticed that when I switched to my old razor, my old shaving technique came up automatically from mere habit. I ended up flipping back to it with the R41 and it was smooth sailing. When I first got the R41, and started watching wet shaving videos everyone says to shave with the grain on the first pass, but it's really hard to do that on my neck sides because my hair grows towards the back of my neck instead of straight down. I don't have a big enough double chin yet to smoothly go from the center across my neck and I found it really hard to get a smooth pass with the grain.

Before all the wet shaving tutorials, I would go across the grain on my neck sides so basically, just shave up into my jawline. It is just so much easier and even if it isn't with the grain, I get a better shave because I'm not positioning the razor head awkwardly against my skin and I get an even surface across the whole razor head. More control this way. I'm going to go back to my time tested and true shaving method.
If we exclude the pre 2011 versions ( the real shark ) which were fitted with a fatip and merkur head, the r41 is essentially not an open comb but a kind of hybrid.
If you shave with razor head slightly flat on your face it becomes docile.
there are no mysterious tricks as many phenomena on YouTube want you to believe
It's all about wrist play ✊
and we men should know better
Enjoy !

The Blutt is in my top 3 DE razors (I've tried a few).
A cracking shave today, the Mühle knot is fantastic - pity i dropped and chipped it a while back, i may put it in another handle.
This blade has completed 5 full shaves in total so far, still very smooth, although it has been banked as i have plenty of blades and next weeks razors deserve a fresh blade.
Enjoy your day all.

Does he still make razors tone. I check on his site now and again. And after seeing this I’ve checked. Nothing. Seems like since he dropped the polished variant he went and disappeared. Haven’t checked his instagram but I know that lay dorment for months on end also 🫠

Having dug out my Progress Razor to answer a query about protecting it when travelling, I decided that I should give it ago, despite not having a DE Shave for 3+ years.
I was rather apprehensive, but with a good lather was rather surprised at how quickly and well the Shave went. It would seem that by switching between different SE Razors has improved my approach to Shaving. On a low setting of 3, and using a light touch the Progress cleared Two days growth with ease, and delivered a nice close finish - no weepers !
Very pleased that I have kept hold of the Lab Blues, which was always my to go blade- having tried out quite a few different ones. I believe that they are available in UK for around £25 per 100, nearly double the price I paid years ago.
