What's with British people and that movie for Christmas? I don't get it. The movie isn't that good... Bill Nighy song scene is fun though.

We have Home alone for Christmas on tv every year. They start playing all of them 4-5 days before Christmas and count down in reverse so the original Home Alone is on tv for Christmas.

It is a very English film, not even a British film, the characters are very english and we see all our faults and idiosynchracies in the characters within the film. It is just a Christmas tradition along with Its a Wonderful Life, pantomines, mince pies, advent calendars, poinsettias, selection boxes, sending cards to people who you never see, watching Granny get drunk and then fall asleep on the sofa after the Queens speech, eating Christmas pudding - a struggle for many, and a very boring far too large turkey that doesnt have much in the way of taste and despertately needs cranberry sauce to make it edible, (guess who forgot to buy the cranberry sauce)

Love Actually is just another silly Christmas ritual that we do and we would miss if it was taken away, which I am sorry to say is the reality for many this year due to reasons that we all understand.

Well, I am not a Brit, though I did live in and still like to call London home.

I don't know, it's just a movie that leaves me warm inside, and it has the right amount of English humour to make me giggle every other minute.

Edit: something I adore about English people is how self deprecating they can be, and how they genuinely take the piss at themselves, unashamedly. The movie is pretty much an example of this way of being.

I love Love Actually, actually and don’t care who knows it! I’m a sucker for a Romcom. After the year we’ve had I couldn’t face watching it.

The ‘bedroom’ scene with Emma Thompson with Joni Mitchell playing ”Both sides now” is heartbreaking 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭. Whenever I hear that song (usually while driving) I sob like a little toddler.

Oh and the final scene with the Beach Boys “God only knows” oh sweet Marie it’s all too much. :cry:

I think that your sentence in the Edit sums it up pretty well indeed. I think the Colin Firth character sums up a great many englishmen of a certain age.
