Simpson synthetic chubby

After over 100 uses my Simpson chubby synthetic now has zero scritch. However you wise to manipulate the knot, swirling, painting, pumping. No scratch or scritch. The knot also feels softer and less brick or new boar like. It splay slightly more as well. It has not lost a single fibre.

Anyone else experiencing this with a well used Simpson synthetic? I'm quite eased although the early slight scritch was not too much of a hassle.

Yes this is now sounding strange, it was definitely scritchy when scrubbing to build lather on the face. Painting actions were not. Now that it has relaxed, no scritch is noticeable. I remember other members mentioning that the knot is very stiff when new?? I could be wrong though.

I've had a few, one was very slightly scritchy, the others not. Maybe some small batch variation or fibres bought in from different sources?

Has it always been the same knot in the synthetic 2 since day one ?
I have one that is a few years old and I wonder if they upgraded the knot since I bought mine , I.e. as in the Muhle and Edwin Jagger synths , versions 1 and 2 ?

I was too impatient with mine I think. Couldn't get it to splay properly and ended up selling it

Mine wasn’t scritchy either which was something of a relief, however it was very reluctant to splay. I too found that it relaxed after using it for a while.

The Chubby Synthetic was a slow burner for me; even from the first use it had that uber soft make up brush feel at the tips, I would of welcomed a little scritch or more presence at the tips. The more I use the brush though, the more I admire what Simpson has achieved compared to other synthetics. I have the Thater Synthetic on route so looking forward to comparing.

The Thater's have a lot more presence at the tips, that's for sure. Will be interested to hear your thoughts once you've used it a couple of times.

...that is good to know; will post my experience in due course. I ordered from Maggards a few days ago so it maybe a week or so before I receive it...
